Phone Interview....

Just finished a phone interview for a help desk position. Pretty quick and dirty. Just 6 questions were asked. One of the questions I didn't have a good answer for so I thought I would ask ATOT to see what you would say.

A customer calls to let you know their computer is not working. How would you determine if the computer is a Windows or MAC computer? How would you determine what OS version it is running?

umm ask the person?

do they see the apple/mac logo? do they see a start button?

what does "not working" imply really. That it doesn't power up or it doesn't do a task taht the user wants it to do.

good thing i'm not in IT! i'd go insane.

- Ask them what kind of computer they have (the obvious solution)

If that doesn't work, you could ask stuff like "Does it say Start in the lower left-hand corner?" or "Does it say Finder or have an apple in the top left corner?"

I used to do phone support myself so I used to have to do crap like that occasionally.

heh, i hate questions like that because i'm like, can you give me more info? whats not working? it doesn't turn on? a specific program doesn't work, etc.

I hate phone iterviews. i remember when i got an phone interview with Analog Devices....they asked me to solve a circuit over the phone. What was worse was that the guy interviewing me could not speak english well.

All I heard was "After the cap, put a resistor in series with another cap, then put a pulldown resistor between the caps".....

apple mouse has one click, while windows mouse has at least left and right click. Also tell the user to see what's the manufacture name of the computer.

as for the OS version, need more user info..hehe.
