Phone gurus

My Fiancé just moved into a new apartment and the dude that lived there previously ripped all the phone system apart just because he could... Anyway... I don?t know how to hook up this line again now... so I'm asking ATOT for help!!

Description of the diagram... There is a solid color with white stripes, and then a white wire with a color stripe on it... the colors are Green, Blue, Orange...

I've heard that Blue & Blue Stripe are the ones that I need to hook up to the Red & Green connections at the phone jack thing... but, since Phone line is DC current, do I need to apply something to ground, or does it need that?

The phone line is active, but no matter what combination of wires I place onto the Red & Green wires on the phone jack, I get nothing... no dial tone, no static or anything...

Any advice anyone? Bell Canada wants $100 just to walk in the door... I'd rather do this myself if I can...

If none of the combinations work, then you probably have a problem at the NID(Network Interface Device). That's where the telco's wiring is connectected to the internal wiring.

Thats what I was hoping... But while I was trying these, I never had anything hooked up to black for ground... Is this needed, or will the phone work with only two wires connected to the green and red?

Also - Since the phone gets its power from the line right? so when I stroke the wires over the terminals on the phone jack with the phone plugged in... I would think I would hear static - but there's nothing at all... which made me wonder if I needed to have ground hooked up...

Green is tip and red is ring. Black is tip and yellow is ring for a 2nd phone line. There is no wire to connect to ground.

red & green = line 1
yellow & black = line 2
usually the blue & blue/white go to red & green

You can take just the handset from your phone, place the red and green on the 2 center wires (just hold them onto the plates on your handset connector). Then, listen on the handset. If you hear a dialtone, its an analog line. If you hear repeating clicks, its a digital line. If it is digital, then that is how your phone is powered. Either way, you should only need the 2 wires unless it is a really old D-mark from the phone company.
