**There may be possible spoilers in this thread - I'm not going to post any but be warned that there might be**

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars

My thoughts: I was very impressed by this movie. Cast includes Forest Whitaker, Collin Farrel, Kiefer Sutherland, and Katie Holmes. Quick overview of the movie: like the commercials show, he ends up in a phone booth trapped by a man with a sniper rifle. If he leaves, he will die. The cops come and surround the phone booth and there's a stand-off with Collin trapped in the middle.

This movie is pretty much all about Collin. Out of all the characters, he's the only one with any real substantial character development in the movie. He starts off the movie being portrayed basically as a complete jack@$$, the guy who lies and deceives everyone he meets, regardless of who it is. The incident in the phone booth breaks him down and forces himself to realize he's a coward hiding behind a mask. Collin IRL is a pompous jack@$$ so he was perfect for this part.

Forest stars as the police captain/negotiator dealing with Collin. He is the only one who realizes Collin is innocent and acts to try to save him. Not a hard role - could've been played by anyone.

Kiefer is the sniper and the man behind the phone. He seems to know all of Collin's secrets and plays mind games with them. His demeanor is friendly, soothing, yet sadistic. Very intense role, perfect for Kiefer. I can't think of another actor whose raspy voice would fit that part like it does Kiefer.

The movie keeps you on your toes throughout the whole movie. It's gripping and intense. You feel bad but kind of "serves you right" for Collin's character. You feel sympathy for what Kiefer is doing even though he killed a couple people. Pretty much the entire movie takes place in the phone booth with the exception of the beginning and ending. The movie was never dull nor boring - it's a lot more exciting than it sounds, even though it takes place in just the phone booth. The movie's bad points: runs about 81 minutes, but a damn good 81 minutes. The other bad point is that the other characters aren't very well developed other than Collin and Kiefer. Collin's wife and wannabe-lover and the cop are kind of just there - they could have used a little more work, although perhaps that would have drawn away from the movie.

Great movie overall, well worth the money.

Hmm, I've seen some very good movies that are that short. This sounds like another one of those. That's just cool. I knew this was gonna be good, but it's nice to hear from someone who's actually seen it.

I saw it last week and thought it was a pretty good flick. I wish the sniper would have blasted the screaming prostitutes in the face -- they were annoying as hell.

Yes I wish they would have too. They were more annoying than Leon.

One thing to note as an interesting tidbit about this movie. With filming it almost entirely in a phone booth, not only did they save on production costs by reducing the number of locations they needed to be at, but they highly reduced the number of sets they needed. I bet they saved a wad on this movie and they're gonna end up making a ton at it too!

Holy cr**!! That is just awesome! Yet I bet this movie makes a freaking killing! Man, now if hollywood would learn from this, maybe they'll quit making that cr** they call movies and start making good stuff like this. They can even learn about film economics from this too! :)

Not many other movies can be shot in one place all the time though :( Joel Schumachers other movies have been utter crap, so it's nice that he made a good movie for once :)

this movie had some pretty funny dialogue and it was pretty entertaining for a while, but at some point i got tired of that f*ckin hypocrite's incessant preaching. it's like going to a frickin 80 minute sermon or confessional.

Heh... from the previews this movie just looks absolutely stupid.

I guess I just have some major hangup about people mistaking a man with a phone as the person who shot someone. I don't understand why a police force would sit there and negotiate with a guy standing in a phone booth with a... ::gasp:: phone in his hand.

Just seems like a stupid idea to me... not my type of movie.

Has anyone here seen Liberty stands still? I have not seen phone booth but liberty stands still was released a year or so ago. It takes place with a woman who is standing and a sniper is pointing at her the entire movie and she has to stand there. Ring a bell anyone? Oh wait yes it does! It sounds like this movie. Hollywood needs to get a clue! Text

Chris - I had the very same misconception about that too. I was like "wtf...do they see a gun?" but the way it unfolds, you can see why they would have thought he shot someone. The commercial doesn't do it justice. It's worth seeing imho. I can't say anymore without semi-spoiling it for everyone

Phone Booth was supposed to be released last September or October. It's not a fvcking rip-off of L.S.S. Hell it was probably shot at the same time LSS was. They only delayed it b/c of that psycho DC sniper.

Oh FYI Skoorb - they had an article in today's paper - it was filmed in DECEMBER 2000. Looks like LSS ripped Phone Booth off then :p

Was it filmed before LSS? Somebody ripped somebody off!
