Recently watched a woman at a mall here walk out of Macy's with her face embedded in her phone. As she started in a straight path heading directly towards the fountain in the middle of the mall... my eyes are glued. Seconds later... splash. One of the funniest things I've probably ever witnessed. It's real.

it's just like in the mid 90's and early 2000's when you could be addicted to the internet.

move along folks nothing to see here.

so sick of anecdotal evidence.

I make it a point to not use my phone in public. That's why I love my Android Wear watch. I can check my notifications without taking my phone out of my pocket.

My wife does. We get up in the morning first thing when she comes down in the morning is grabs her phone. Eating breakfast? On her phone. We car pool and I drive. She's on her phone. I take my daughter to the bus stop for school, she sits in the car on her phone. I drive home. She's on her phone. We get home, she's on her phone. While waiting for kids to get ready for bed. She's on her phone. Kids go to bed and we watch something on netflix, she's on her phone.

And when you try and call her on it she gets defensive. Try and get her to set it down and she gets anxious. If I so much as glance at mine I get called on it.

Yeah. The struggle is real.

Yeah but I can't strap a desktop PC and a cable modem to my back and lug it around with me at every place I go. The bathroom, the bus stop, the grocery store, the mall, and so on. Plus you typically had a computer in an office or bedroom. Not right at the dinner table or you kids bedroom constantly distracting you.

I don't and I feel left out. :(

I miss all the cool trends. I never got the clap, never got a DUI, never popped my collar, never bought Click Clacks, never sent a tweet, didn't become a lesbian for sophomore year. I'm a failed hipster. :'(

You can still grow a neckbeard, buy a fedora and an ugly tweed sports coat from Goodwill.

Not really. If I get a couple minutes in the truck or something, I'll check things out on the phone, but it's usually in my pocket.

As weird as it sounds the active display on my Motorola devices have really cut down on my phone use. The display pulses a notification that I can simply touch with my finger and get a preview of. I don't have to pick up the phone or turn on the screen. There's no impulse of of "oh while I have this thing on may as well check this out too!".

Nothing to check, it just stays on the desk or in my pocket.

Um, well okay. When Rubik's Cubes were the rage I bought a keychain version and upon leaving the drug store I was walking down the sidewalk playing with it. I walked into a fire hydrant. Ouch. Owie. I was down on the ground rolling, trying to see if my knee cap was still there. Yes, there were witnesses but it hurt too much to pretend it didn't happen or didn't hurt.

Obviously my thread is not so serious and I find my phone extremely useful, but I only had to walk into a completely silent room full of teens texting furiously to go "WTF?" I was in charge of an event and I said "Hey, everyone give me your phone". You would have though I was taking away the crack pipe :D

Bullshit.

That is a video that's been on the internet for years.

well aren't I a jackass?!

Fucking hell. Pretty sure my brain died at some point last week. Maybe it fell out? Can a brain fall out?

When you sleep and wake up in a pile of drool. That's not drool. It's your brain trying to escape.

My girlfriend definitely does, her face is always buried in her phone.

My dad would read the newspaper while watching tv and I always thought that was weird. My girlfriend? She'll watch tv by chromecasting from her phone, then surf pinterest/whatever it is she does the entire time.

My wife watches (more like half ass listens) to TV while face down playing games on her phone. It was candy crush, then some number sliding one, now it's some food chef thing with different restaurant types.

I can't do that. My brain can focus on one thing at a time incredibly well. Introduce a second thing and I can't do anything with either.

I do appreciate the irony of people with 40,000+ posts saying that technology addiction isn't real :)

Social media is what you all are addicted to and the phones are just your portable tool to get high on the road. Getting rid of the phones is like throwing your crack pipe out. There are head shops everywhere.
