Phison Controller based Patriot PS-100 32GB Info

Since there are always tons of SSD questions, I picked up two Patriot PS-100's today despite the fact that there was no real information on Google save the press release from a week ago.

Ended up finding a Phison controller inside with 64MB of Hynix DRAM and 32GB of Toshiba flash. Also found some interesting performance numbers.

Bringing the drives with me for Thanksgiving to check for stutter, and to check Raid 0 performance.

Some of the numbers are bad, but with Raid 0, they may be OK given the $90 pre-rebate and $60 AR price they are selling for.

Here's a link for pictures/ benchmarks: http://www.servethehome.com/?p=206

Let me know if there is anything you want me to test out. I'll be bringing the X18-M G1, Agility, and the two Patriot drives with me (but not the Vertex and G2 X25-M).

Cheers.

Very interesting, thankyou for sharing!

Sadly, the 4k numbers are pretty brutal...kinda tells all that you need to know.

Yea, they are super bad. Even if you look at the CrystalDiskMark read speeds... it is horrible, but I can reproduce the number +/- 2% on both platforms and with both drives. Still for $60, it seems like a pretty decent drive thus far to stick on a cheap and silent Atom/ION platform as a media streaming target. I'm kinda interested to see what happens to performance as the drives get filled also since there's no TRIM.

It is actually better than I thought. Swapping from Indilinx to Phison based drives is much more noticible than an Intel drive to an Indilinx drive. There doesn't seem to be noticible stutter so it would be fine in an Atom based system (and better in an ION based one!)
