Philosophical thought for the day

Before I even start, let me beg that this not turn into a flame war over anything.

OK.

Did anyone see CSI last night? Grissom told an interesting story. He said that there was a man who, when he would go into the bathroom at work to relieve himself, would notice a little spider living under the lip of the stool, and when it was flushed, the spider would be pulled down, struggling against the rushing water for its very life. The next day when he went in to take a leak, there was the same spider, and the same struggle ensued. This went on for weeks. One day, the guy gets feeling sorry for the spider. He grabs some paper towels and scoops the spider up, then sets it on the floor in the corner of the stall.

Next day, he comes in, and guess where the spider was? On its back in the corner, legs curled up, dead as a wedge. And the reason it died? Because one life imposed itself on another.

Realy made me think.

And yes, I get the irony of picking up philosophy from prime-time tv. 🙂

is that supposed to be "DEEP"?

sigh.. if ur in college or have access to one, just take philo courses. It's fun.

Not necessarily "deep", but it did make me think, especially about the way it applies to a lot of discussions I see here in OT. I've never taken a formal philosophy course, but I do enjoy what I've read of Nichomachean Ethics and some other excerpts of Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle. (I prefer 'classical' philosophy to 'modern'. 🙂 )

Ooh, now you've done it. Now I have to go home and dig out my philosophy refernces and start reading them again. Like I don't have enough other books I'm working on. 🙂
