Thought I'd bump this thread becuase some great stuff is happening

The petition to bring back Y100 is at about 45,000 signatures and still going strong - thats 4 times what WHFS in D.C. got and they were put back on the air.

Ex Y100 DJ's are making almost daily webcasts over Live365.com. They can play and say whatever they want - if you thought the radio station was good, this is ten times better.

The story has been aired by local NBC affiliate NBC10 and printed by the Philadelphia Inquirer, more than once. Rolling Stone will run a story in the magazine soon. Radio One's CEO is making damage control statements. A message was put on the Weezer web site. Even WMMR DJ's are supporting the movement on the air. Permission from the city has been obtained to protest on Saturday in Love Park.

The Electric Factory is letting the new Y100 present a concert - Y100Rocks.com presents Sum 41 and Unwritten Law.

So, if you haven't, SIGN THE PETITION at Y100Rocks.com. Even if you don't like rock, this is a great way to support independent radio and fight corporations spoon feeding us music.

Um, Y100 wasn't the last alternative rock station in Philly, 98.5 is still around.

Y100 was nice, but it wasn't the best station in Philly. Its all about the Hawk. I get it at college now since they changed to 97.5 too!

G Rock isn't Philadelphia - it's NJ. Their signal can't be received west of the city.

So who knows, maybe good will come out of it for you also.

blazert40 I used to live in that market, what stations changed?

music is cyclical. I'm sure during the hair band 80s, people were saying rock is dead as well.

There will be a revival.

Music is a mirror of the current society. When times are good, music is happy. When times are bad, music turns more introspective, dark.

I say go into the station and start cussing at all the DJs. While their on the air. Then pull an "Airheads" and get on the air and hold the station hostage till they change back. Yep. That is what I'd do.

I never even bothered to plug the antenna in my car into my head unit when I replaced it last year.

Of course Philadelphians made a sh!tty radio personality like the turdburglar John DiBella and his "morning zoo" program into a superstar so we already know your tastes suck. The radio stations there cater to your peers, the typical dumbass Philadelphian rocker who is perfectly content to listen to YSP play "Iron Man" seventeen times a day. Of course you should have seen this coming when they turned WHFS in D.C. into a Latino station. Unless you live in a smaller marketplace city with some actual new population (like me here in Richmond VA with 2 big alternative rock stations duking it out along with some smaller competitors) you're going to have choices defined by your neighbors, namely those so stupid that they still live in Mayor John Street's Philadelphia.
Yeah I was wondering what happened to HFS? Turned it on one day and it's VIVA VIVA HASTA LUEGO! Like, wtf happend to HFS?

In any case, I'd much rather live in Philly and listen to YSP than be a yuppie/hick hybrid living in RICHMOND, VA, and thinking I'm cool b/c I have 4 more Emo stations than Philly. Give it up, Richmond hicks can only dream of having the balls and grit of Philadelphians. Now get back in your SUV and listen to Dashboard Confessional, thanks.

There was a brief revival in the early to mid 90's with the Seattle grunge thing, but that was short and it didn't spawn any lasting musical influences. These days, there is way too much commericalization and the music labels are giant conglomorates.

electronica is where we're heading towards it seems.

Talk about misplaced anger... jesus...

There's always XPN. Thank god for public radio.
We needed another urban station like we needed another embarassing athletic defeat.

Well, good to hear about the petition. Of course Philly has 6X as many people as DC, so more would sign. Here's to hoping they still in biz...

BTW what channel is HFS now? Couldn't find it.
