For anyone considering HDMI over component, I have not noticed any difference between the two on HD channels.

I get audio from my HDMI cable and it sounds awesome with HD content.

This TV has been great so far for me. I purchased it with Logitech Z-5500's for the money I saved...and man it's nice.

Watching DVD's in Component Vid with the z-5500 on optical. nice experience there.

A TV for under 400$? hah.

Only issue is hooking up through S-Video to a PC looks awful...if anyone could suggest that the DVI/HDMI cable looks better than running through S-Vid, then I would purcahse one of those.

I also notice that S-Video max resolution is 1024x768, will that increase if I use HDMI/DVI???

Thanks.

Thats funny i have the 2005fpw also. :p I'd still use that for my HTML/Web work, but am definitely looking into using this as my main montor for games. Gaming in the recliner/on the couch 4tw.......

Doom 3 looked very nice through S-Video, however i had a white line go from bottom to top of screen every 5 seconds or so...so wasnt too fun. and only 1024x768...

Looking into spending money on a HDMI-DVI cable tonight.

man the text on my 2005fpw is just oo small for the height of the screen, I think id do better on a square 20" or a larger widescreen, that has at least a 20" height

im really considering my 20005fpw. just dont like it that much

720P and 1080i are the same level of resolution. One is progressive, the other interlaced.

The next step ( a few out, coming ) is 1080P.

This TV is being replaced by one with both tuners. It is perfect for someone who has no interest in pulling in free HD over an external antenna.

Will that work? I'm wondering if these are one-way or will work both ways.

That woudl work but better off just buying a adapter and a cheap dvi cable, thats what I did;)

All I can say is there is NOTHING that compaires to playing doom III on the 32" at 1280x1024 with all the eye candy turned up. I will never use a smaller monitor again :D:D:D

What is a "Factory Renewed" Philips product?
Purchasing a Philips product that has been renewed to factory specifications is a smart way to do more with a limited budget. A renewed product has been tested to meet the latest Philips quality standards. However, because a product classified as Factory Renewed has been out of its original carton, it may have cosmetic imperfections. A Factory Renewed product carries a 90-day limited warranty from Philips. Please Note: Factory Renewed products cannot be returned for credit.

its 90 days with some limited return possibilities so be carefull

got this from a post over on FW

K. Got my HDMI to DVI cable at Sears, 53$......Now my TV will only go 640x480, did you perhaps download a driver? I might just need a restart or something....going to work with it now. but its definitely already a HUGE improvement over S-Video.....

This is looking good. Because iw ant my speakers centralized and the only way to do that is to use the TV as a game monitor!!

Hmm...my TV is also only showing 480iippwer ... Too many new toys at once!

I honestly dont see why you couldnt do it as a monitor at higher rez but make sure you dont switch your card to a higher rez the tv may not be able to handle. Also try hd out if your card supports it.
I havent hooked this set to my computer yet mainly because its in the bedroom, weighs a ton, and with my condition I cant move it. If I could I would of tried it myself.

I've got the 8402 refurb model, cost me $419 shipped last year....shipping was free, but slow (idiot trucking company). Unit was well-packed and virtually unblemished. Works perfectly :D

Here's my take on buying one of these refurb'd: I've heard that Philips had some tuner problems, I figure that's probably why these are refurb'd ;) In any case, for the $456 w/tax I paid, it's a nice TV with a great picture and a cheap way in to HD for me :D

My experience for getting that exact same TV was the same.. slow shipped but packed nice and it was pretty much flawless. I feel the same way about it too, I absolutely love mine and consider it the deal of my life so far!

I bought one of these on february 8. it arrived here last tuesday DOA. The thing wouldn't power on at all. I called Philips tech support and they basically just threw some phone numbers at me and told me to get it repaired. I called some of the numbers and most of them told me they wouldn't be able to come look at it for at least a week. Fortunately, I finally found one that had an appointment open for the next morning. He came and looked at it and after an hour or so of testing, he determined the main board with the microprocessor was not functioning properly and he said he'd have to replace it which also meant he had to order the part. So here I am on February 18 with my new TV sitting in the floor and it's still not functional. My case seems to be a rare exception rather than the norm but I for one will never chance such a purchase with Philips Outlet again. I feel like they didn't even care that my TV wasn't working.

here's a question.... i just got mine, and I LOVE IT, except in the 4:3 mode , especially when in "widescreen" selector (it switches to wide when it comes in), i get some weird warping along the right and left sides of the image, around where the black stripes are from it making a widescreen intoa 4:3. Any ideas why this is there, any fixes that one knows of, or if they have seen similar issues? Please do let me know!

That warping you see is normal and was previously unseen because a regular 4:3 tv would of been hidden behind the plastic surround and the fact that the picture on all edges are slightly streched. My tv does the same and I dont even notice it anymore. I dont know if other widescreen makers are having the same problem or it may just be because this tv isnt a $1K set. But I am quite happy with it. There is a way around it though. Use slight zoom on your sat reciever and it will slightly crop the picture to take up the entire screen. This isnt much a big deal or miss much of the newer programs and commercials since alot of them have taken in consideration when producing it you are streching the picture.

I keep mine in the mode and have for about a month now and looks great and the only time I really get a funked up chopped picture is if it is a old rerun of a show or movie on regular tv. But this is what TBS does when they are broadcasting thier programs in standard and HD. Swap between the two and in most case can see they are partionaly zooming the standard show on thier HD channel.

WOW.
BTW I am using the DVI output with a DVI-HDMI adapter making use of the HDMI input.
I did try the componant input first though and it did pop up a box that said 1080I after I switched the sat reciever to that output.

 After a month I'm stilll wow'ing some of the HD content it displays too. Keep an eye out on the upper left corner though, these models (mine as well) when shipped to people are said too pick up on an internal speaker magnet and display a discoloration that can be seen on light colored backgrounds, if you get this try facing the TV north, it sounds ridiculous but try it.

Thanks for the heads up on that. As of now I dont have anything on the screen like that. And yeah this thing is sweet. I was going to get a cheap 32" regular tv for $300 but glad I spent the extra $100. Not regreting it one bit!

buying crap doesn't make you happy, one day you'll see.

Buying HDTV's does though, one day you'll have one.
