Philips Progressive-Scan DVD Player DVP642 $39.99 AR @ Circuit City

Seems really cheap...and the reviews say that it plays ANY media...for that price, probably worth any minor annoyances. Bump for heat!

I have one like this. I hate the remote, but it seems to play anything. I may get another one just to play music CD's. I don't think I can find anything cheaper.

I got one last year for myself then for all my friends
thing is amazing plays anything from pictures on your digicam to divx movies.
the only problem wasn't able to make it play svcd files and sometimes need to switch from movie to menu, back and forth to get stable picture.

But Im not sure if its that hot HOT...its been around $40 for almost 2 years :/

It doesn't produce the greatest video quality in the world, but it will play your Russian Divx-encoded movies without a hitch. Family had one for a long time, and it really played everything. Nice price.

Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I've never played a DivX movie on my TV before.
For example, say I've got some home videos encoded in DivX format.

Can I burn a couple of them onto a CD and just play the disc in that machine?
Would it play them sequentially, or would there be some kind of menu?
And would I need to worry about codecs of any kind like with Windows Media player?

Thank you
