Hi all
I have this monitor problem. My 17" Philips 107P1 (that's what I got when they replaced it under warranty)
is having the same problems I had with my old 107P2. It won't start up at times and when I mean won't
start up, is
1) Sometimes power light goes green but screen remains blank but if you stare at it while the PC's booting
you can see it flicker a while
2) Sometimes power light remains orange but screen also remains blank

HOw do I know it's a monitor problem? When I do a hot plug out and plug in of my NEC VX500 (yes some ppl still own them)
that one shows me the XP log in screen.

It doesn't feel like the graphic card to me although I must say I can't seem to output to TV anymore either. (Radeon VIVO 64MB ddr)

SO anyone with suggestions on what is the problem? Or what the problem might be?

Thanks

Sounds like the power supply inside the monitor is dead or dying. This is typically why CRTs "go bad" .

But strange thing is this is the replacement monitor.
It's not the same one, I think they stiffed me too. I had a P20 now I've got a P1.

Do all Philips monitor of that generation have power problems?

Any one who has Philips monitors older than a year or made in 1999/2000?
Mine was a year old from the store but was made in 1999 and so is this replacement

Phillips (actually Magnavox) does not have a good reputation with their computer monitors.

With that particular model, the electrolytics leak (lose capacity) totally
causing High Voltage Transformer and other components to go bad.

Send back for another replacement.

This one is a long shot. We had a couple of monitors at work that would not wake up if the refresh rate was 60 hz. Set the refresh rate in the advanced diplay properties to 72 or 75 and it would work.

Thanks for all the info.
Helps me to understand the stuff. But it's so frustrating. They don't pay for shipping.
I bear it and then in 2-6 months time, I have to send it in again. 2-3 times of that and I might as well buy a new monitor.

As for the 60 Hz thingy, ya I went through that to. THanks for the reminder.

And I mean they don't return it in 7 working days like promised. Apparently because this is under the major problem category. That's what happened to me the last time. They replaced it because I was just complaining after 2.5 weeks (plus weekends). First they claimed that I had delivered to them 3 days later then I did ( I have shipping confirmation - which they have forgotten). And then things went downhilll until I called daily, then they shipped this out to me ASAP which is starting to breakdown again. Makes me never want to go Philips again. I mean CS is good but reliability sucks.
