Does anyonw else own this dvd player and how does it work for you?

I don't know if you're just wanting something inexpensive or if you want an all-in-one player, but the OPPO DV-970HD is a great player with high marks in the A/V community. I own two of them.

I'm thinking of getting the DV-981HD for our new 1080p LCD.

Would this dvd player only be a good idea to get for a big screen tv?

From what I understand the oppo players really only look their best with digital video output. As long as you have a DVI / HDMI input on your TV it would be a strong choice.

I have the DVP642 Philips...its plays everything thats why I keep it especially avi and Divix movies...for my dvds I use my Toshiba HD player

Philps DVP642 doesn't play QPEL

Yes, however I should have prefaced my comments by saying I have NOT used this new and updated player, however the older one was terrible.

I now have a Toshiba HD-A1 player which upconverts standard def dvds great.
