Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1 or Santa Cruz?

I want to upgrade my soundcard, and have narrowed my choices down to the Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1 and the Turtlebeach Santa Cruz. I
plan to use this on a W2k machine (if that should make a difference). Which card would you suggest I get? Is the sound quality of one
better than the other? Does one have better driver support? Any opinions or suggestions would be appretiated. Thanks.

m3rcury well i was trying to choose from those too. I finally just got the Santa Cruz because of the really good driver support! The Santa Cruz has the best driver support. They update the drivers every 3 months if not more! I got my Santa Cruz retail from compusa for $59.99 when it was on sale. It is orginally $79.99 at compusa but they had the $20 instant rebate deal. I think its a cool sound card. I would try to wait till you see it on sale again because it will save you $20 plus you pay about the same price you would pay if you brought the oem one online. The Philps Acoustic Edge 5.1 is nice too but the driver support does not get updated i do not think as much i believe. But i am not 100% sure on that. I know they put beta drivers out on this website but Santa Cruz does that too on their website. If you go to Philps website and look at the latest drivers and what they are dated then Santa cruz website and see what their latest drivers are dated you will see the Santa Cruz ones are the most recent. Hope this helps. The Philps Acoustic Edge 5.1 i know is about $80 at my circuit city i believe but it was once on sale as low as $50 btw after the mail in rebates. It was a $30 mail in rebate. Have not seen that offer lately. That was a while back ago. Hope this helps. Let me know which one you choose.

Thanks

I love the Acoustic Edge, and I think they have excellent driver support also. I do admittedly have a problem when burning cd's with the audio though. I simply turn my speakers off when burning. This problem is only in Win2k, XP. I had no problems in WinME with it. The problem is probably hardware related, and may be fixable through different settings. If you're worried about full compatability I think there is less problems in Win2k with the TBSC.

Santa Cruz.

The AE is a nice card, but it has issues with VIA and other quirks I've experienced on various setups.

The SC has top-notch drivers and support. You can't go wrong 😀

I have no issues with the Acoustic Edge on my hybrid AMD/VIA chipset mobo (Epox 8k7a) Its a great sound card!
