Philips 30PW8402/37 30" 100Hz widescreen HDTV

Got this at BJ's Wholesale Club for $550 after a $100 instant rebate. This TV is $800 everywhere else around here. We have Cox HDTV service with a Motorola DCT6412 dual tuner DVR. Went to eBay and ordered a 9ft DVI to HDMI cable for about $30. We love this setup.

This may not be the best HDTV out there, but after researching for a while I can't see anybody touching this deal. The TV fits in our entertainment center (the TV is only 36" wide) and doesn't overwhelm the room.

If possible, it may eventually become the monitor for my PC. Not sure if the DVI to HDMI cable will work for PC setups.

No too shabby. As a pc monitor you'll probably have to go thru the component connections using and adaptor. Your video card needs to support it though. The resolution won't be that great. Probably best as a 2nd monitor. It would beat the hay out of svideo out.

I plan on getting a new ATI All in Wonder 800XT series when available, and they have DVI output. Won't this allow DVI to the TV? I could otherwise get the HD adapter for my All in Wonder 9600 Pro.

Where is your BJ's? I don't think mine does that. I'll have to ask. At least they helped me load mine.

Framingham, MA.

There are signs all over the store saying delivery is included in price for large items.

Might be regional.

hdmi = dvi.
No need for component transcoding or hd adapters.

Many places where you can get a cable with hdmi on one side with dvi on the other.

Getting the resoltuion and timings issues to work out is a different story.

Looks like a great tv for ~500 bucks.

My BJ's is in Attleboro MA, and I'm fairly certain they don't deliver. If they did I would have taken advantage of it. It was not fun using the Malibu Maxx. Gotta get another truck...

Watching Discovery HD Theater and it looks awesome. Just got back and the store has more in stock again. I don't know how they can sell it so cheap when places like CompUSA get $800.

Does anybody know if they cheapo cables on eBay are worth it? I got a 9ft DVI to HDMI coming, paid about $30. The Monster version is easily over $100. I know Monster is really good, I used to buy them when I was a selfish, single lad. But I can't afford it now. Besides, it's not like I got a $3,000 TV.

BJ's? is this an east coast thing? I'm in Cali...never heard of it...looking for a nice tv aswell. Anyone have any similar deals on nice TV's let me know in this post. Thanks

BJ's is like Sam's Club and Costco.

Was this with the in-store coupon flyer thing? They have it at my local BJs, but it has no associated rebates at all.

You don't need to do anything. The $100 comes off at the register automatically. At my BJ's the price tag said $649 - $100 instant rebate = $549.

I'd be wary of Phillips. They have the worst warranty support I've ever seen. Only 90 days on labor. At this price point you'll probably be better off buying a new TV if something breaks down. Otherwise its a good deal.

My past experience with Philips support was outstanding. It goes back a few years, but I had a top of the line Laser Disc player that died. It was out of warranty, and the repair would have been costly. So they sold me a new top of the line for a bottom of the line price. It was an amazing steal; a $1,200 laser disc player for about $230. I was very happy. The people were friendly, and they called me to let me know my options. We have several Philips products and no complaints. This is by no means a top of the line product, but at this price it's worth whatever risk there may be. I'm not saying I'm a huge Philips fan, I'm saying I think their stuff is wirth a look, and I've been happy with them. Of course I could talk about my Sony support issues...

It could be because my BJ's is right across the street from their main HQ.
