I'm sorry, but that headline is just really funny.

I'm sure the dog didn't kill the guy, it probably just ate him because he died and was unable to feed it.

Exactly.

What probably happened is that the old man died. After a week or so the dog was starving, and the man was dead so he didn't recognize him anymore anyway, so he started to eat him. I doubt the dog up and killed him outright.
 
If the man died first and then the dog ate his remains, then the dog acted in self-defense (against starvation because the man couldn't feed the dog if he's dead)

Regardless, my condolences for the family of the man.
