Collins has a much longer hit single list for a reason.

it is soooo hard to choose between the two.
gabriel had the 'weirdness' edge that true die hard fans... like myself... started listening to them back in the early days. Collins is a lot different and WAS a musical genius when he acted as himself and before he got all commericialized.
Duke, Abacab, were AWESOME and genesis started going downhill from there. Once they got to the I CANT DANCE phase, they were unbearble. Likewise... Collins first two solo albums were pure genius... downhill from there.
As for Gabriel... he was soooo flipping weird with Genesis, but absoutely FANTASTIC in his solo career and his stuff is so different, it is almost hard to tell they are the same person.

If I had the opportunity, I would erase both of these loser's "music" from history.
I'm forced to assume you've never listened to Peter Gabriel's first two or three solo albums.
No where near the same thing!!! Most people who buy Bose are just buying because they've heard the name before. With them it's all about the marketing. With Phil it's all about the music.Originally posted by: Ornery

I have to agree, except for the part about Collins' solo work. I've been a big Genesis fan since the late '70s, and I think they really hit the wall after ABACAB, like the commercial success ruined them.
Considered the quality of Gabriels' solo material, as well as his contributions to Genesis, he gets my vote.

i liked Collins' first solo album. i thought it was pure genius. i also did not mind his second solo. it was different for the times and the lyrics were still from his PAIN era. After that... nah.
Gabriel was a hoot... not only the lyrics and whimsical/weird music and nonsensical lyrics... but the shaved spot on the top of his head and bizarre costumes. i thought it was great at the time... but looking back, his best work was his solo stuff.

Art? Uh no. KarenMarie sums it up pretty well:Originally posted by: Ornery

Yep, bubblegum pop VS art.
Gabriel was all about gimmicks & being silly. It was almost never about music with him.Originally posted by: KarenMarie
