What I am really wondering is how bad my allergies will be.

Arizona used to be a haven for allergy sufferers but with all the people came lots of plants and I hear it is pretty much like everywhere else now.

But at least no mold. Or rust, for that matter.

That would be very nice :)

My allergies bothered me frequently in Indiana. In Phoenix they bother me for about 4-6 weeks in October and November. The rest of the year is fine.

Really 60,000?

That is perfect. I'll bet I could even make use of the library with that many students.

You should also make use of The Library. :)

Once you move here, you'll get it. ;)

I just moved from Northern California to the Phoenix area. I dont know why on earth, if you decided to move anywhere in arizona, why you wouldn't choose the Phoenix metro area. Yeah housing prices have exploded but there are still many areas (mesa, tempe, chandler) that are still reasonable. Tucson is a freakin dump. I've been there many times already in the 3 months I've been here. It's not exactly Compton, but think of it as Tucson = Oakland and Phoenix = San Francisco. It's not horrible, because it does house UofA so it has to be liveable. But it is very close to the border and the hispanic population is very large. And yeah this may not be PC, but with that situation comes crime and Tucson has plenty of it.

The desert is not always hot. It's just dry. It's getting very cold around here at night right now, and Tucson is even colder. It's not norcal cold yet, but it comes close.

I am not sure why I said Tucson. I think some writer I used to like was from there, maybe that is why it stuck out in my mind.

I meant to say whatever the biggest city is, so let me revise it to Phoenix :)

Any thoughts on Phoenix?
i hate to turn this into something that can be done in a PM but maybe people will be interested. When I first moved here (in August to attend ASU) and my friends came down to visit, the first thing that came out of their mouths was "This is Arizona?" People expect barren desert with sand and cacti everywhere and crap like that. When we went down to Tucson, the first thing they said was "this is what we thought arizona was supposed to look like." Yeah that's probably more ignorant than anything else, but consider it anyways.

Scottsdale is very nice. I know many friends from my hometown (Walnut Creek) that have sold their california houses, came down here, built their dream house for half the price and pocketed the rest. Don't let the stories scare you. 115 degrees isn't going to kill you. It's hotter than our summers in california of course but hot is hot.

Anyways, reasons I'd suggest moving here:
-Despite the housing boom it's still reasonably affordable.
-Home to an extremely large population of hot girls, both college and older.
-Companies like it. Google opening major operations in area Intel and Ebay here as well

There's a lot more but you didn't say what you were really looking for besides the weather and such

Hot girls? I'm there

Ebay? Google? I think they need a Campus Computing

Lol.

Really it sounds very nice. Kind of like a warmer Portland, OR. Which is where I was originally planning on moving before I got tired of the rain and mold.

there is mold...we do have a rainy season...its just not as prevelent as most areas of the country.

I've grown up in arizona and lived and spendt time just about every area here from north to south. Phoenix for allergies is not the best due to the pollution. You are in a valley and the pollution during the summer and winter just sits there and you can literaly feel like your breathing in dust and crap all day long. This can wreak havoc on your allergies...or at least it does me and i hardly ever stay there between june/july/aug and dec/jan/feb.
Tucson as mentioned is a piece of crap, live there currently, theres no where nice to live. And the points made about crime and mexicans are true. For example...parents had a yard sale this weekend, they live in the more "affluent" side of town, well soon as the signs were up the mexicans who spoke no english what-so-ever with plates from sonora mexico were there, 6:#0 in the morning, and low and behold after a couple groups come buy, not once but TWICE did they try and steal from us and then finally one time they got away with it. I couldn't beleive it, the damn beeners stole a $5 item, they just swarmed though and are total pathetic lowlifes of people. Living here is the worst place i have ever lived in AZ, and i spent time down by the border for some reason tucson is just a haven for the most decrepid lowlifes of meican society.
If you ask me, if you live anywhere in AZ, prescott is the place to live. Its north but not north enough to be cold. Its not desert at all, its growing but its still not too big, and the atmosphere is some of the nicer people in this state. Unfortunately the housing market up there is just as hot and unfortunately there is no industry up there whatsoever.

Prescott(or P Valley) is where I'd love to live. Best of both worlds. Reasonable summers (rarely above 90) and moderate winters (rarely below 30). Perfect.

Mountains, away from the border, close to Sedona/Flagstaff.

*sigh*

Someday. Maybe.

Please forgive me for being blunt but, as a native of AZ, you have no idea what mold and rain are like for most of the country. Phoenix averages about 330 days of sunshine a year. When we are forecast for a quarter inch of rain (yes, a quarter inch) you get warnings flashing on the TV. Yes, there are flashfloods because the ground is hard so the water rolls instead of absorbing fast. However, the natives here would probably freak out and think it was the end of the world if they ever experienced a storm that is common in the midwest.

I remember that from my time in Tucson (Loved it there).
Typical TV reporter:
"OMG OMG we're gonna get some heavy showers tomorrow. Be prepared for 0.5"."

it monsooned like crazy the first day i was here. I was just swimming in the pool, all of a sudden the sky turns deep crimson red and then rain like no other.

We also have very weird clouds, as compared to california at least. There's actually a scientific explanation for it but I don't remember it. And yes, if you didn't know about Arizona and its girls... you're in for quite a treat.

www.palmwalk.com for ASU chicks. Very shady site, it received a lot of attention in ASU's newspaper but was deemed legal

You should take a trip down here right now. 70-80 degrees all day long, 60 at night. I'm sort of missing my california autumn/winter right now but i can deal with it

Hey, I feel bad enough with my sister giving me weather updates every week!

My family (back near Chicago) loves it when I occasionally call then in November and December just to tell them I'm wearing shorts and have my windows open. :)

I wonder how hard that school is to get into. This could be motivation enough to get my GPA up next semester and be eligible to transfer to another university..

if you're transfering into one of the business programs it's actually not that easy. Both programs at UofA (Eller School) and ASU (WP Carey) are very competitive, nationally ranked, and heavily impacted. The avg gpa for accepted students into accounting when I applied was a 3.7.

I couldn't live in Phoenix. Summers here practically kill me. We do get up to 110 at times. I can't stand it. Anything over 80 I hate.
