Phenon x3 @ 3.62GHz, would upgrading make a difference really?

Can't find the O/C link with all the CPU's pushed...

I have a Phenom 720 @ 3.62, only 3 cores are good.

I am running a 4890 graphics card.

Would upgrading make a difference?

I play left4dead mostly, but 90% of my time is just email/web so even a $300 dell is enough.

I may pick up some more games here and there though now that some of my friends have gotten into it.

I wouldn't touch it, sounds more than good enough for most anything at the moment.

That's what I was thinking too. Lots of 'faster' chips in the $100-200 upgrade range, but in real-life terms I don't know if it's worth saving 20 secs on a dvd decrypt :)

I think that the only "noticable" upgrade, would be to an i7-930, overclocked to 4Ghz. But price-wise, it wouldn't be worth it. You have a very worthy system already.

Left4Dead or Left4Dead 2? I know 2 would probably see a small bump in fps going quad, but it wouldn't be worth the money. As to your other listed tasks, they wouldn't see any gain, wait until next year for a new cpu upgrade.

You could get a hex-core when they come out, the 1075T or 1090T on whatever the 3.2Ghz/3.6Ghz Black Edition one is. Supposed to be sweet for $300.

Sit tight buddy, there's a six core Phenom II coming out this year for that exact platform.

How dose doubling your encoding performance sound? :sneaky:

I'm a casual gamer but I like high texture settings and I've got an X3 at 3.72 with a 4890 as well; there's absolutely nothing out there price worthy of a move unless you MUST have a next gen graphics card. You've got one fast chip on your hands.

dang 6 cores and backward compatible :) what's the pricing going to be, any links? I don't keep up with hardware too much these days.
