Phenom Launch Schedule & Roadmap ...

One thing I've never understood about Agena vs Kuma... why does BOTH dual-core/quad-core have 2MB of L3 cache? Why not have 2MB L3 for quad-core and 1MB for dual-core?

One thing puzzling about that roadmap is why AMD has decided to simultaneously release an AM2+ Phenom FX and X4 at the same clock speed. From what we know of the specs, it seems the only thing separating the two will be an unlocked multiplier and a higher TDP.

Different socket...

Phenom FX is Socket F (1207 pin) for dual processor configurations
Phenom X4 is Socket AM2+ (940 pin) for single processor configurations.

Same reason the FX-74 and 6000+ exist

According to the OP's roadmap link, Phenom FX will be introduced on AM2+, at the same time as X4. Hence my post.

ahhh, so you have to spend twice as much to get them to work. I wonder how a phenom fx will compare to a penryn v8? I see a comparo in anandtech's future...

I see what you mean. That has to be a Typo, since I am fairly certain AMD said they were making the FX chip designation for the 2-way desktops only. However lately consistency in statements has not been AMD's strong suit.

Overall though I think both those columns should say 1207, and the Q1'08 vs Q4'07 difference is just in clock speeds. If you notice the entire top row is 1207 except for that one cell.

So basically we have at least another year of no real competition from AMD?

I just skimmed the roadmap, but nothing is looking too exciting to me...

🙁

That would be a horrifying nightmare...
