good luck
I have personally confirmed that garbage motherboard doesnt even have the power components to stabilize a meager x4 840 at DEFAULT SPEED AND VOLTAGE barely over 8 hrs of prime95- confirmed with two cpus, two sets of ram and two PSUs. one cpu thread ends up erroring out.
Had to downclock the cpu via multiplier so that they would pass prime95
oh , and they cant run the b73 triplecore at full speed unless you disable cpu thermal protection

and yeah- and they undervolt the RAM too
the board is barely worth $10

Based on that motherboard specs, Maximum Processor Wattage Supported 125W

8 hours of Prime95? Who buys a budget $90 CPU+Mobo system and stresses it for 8 hours at a time? No one. If you are going to use a system for distributing computing, rendering, or anything else for 8 hours at a time, you aren't buying budget components in the first place. This combo isn't meant for someone who is maxing out the CPU for half a day. Your 8 hours Prime95 testing has no correlation to real world use for what this system is meant to do. Worst case scenario, there is a 30-day return window at MC if there are any problems.

If that particular board isn't your cup of tea, there is this http://www.microcenter.com/product/379475/M5A78L-M_LX_PLUS_Socket_AM3_760G_mATX_AMD_Motherboard

No matter how you slice it, a Phenom II X4 for $50 that still needs a motherboard is a waste of $ compared to that X6 1045T combo.

I think any AM3+ board is discounted.

I added the 1045T (89.99) and AsRock 970DE3/U3S3 (29.99) to the cart with a total of $127.18 after tax.

Are you saying that with what I have I should not get any of these? Ive not bought an Intel system in 10 years or so, what would a 3570K + MB run me compared to the AMD combos here?

The microcenter cpu + board deal is a 3570k, 3770k or 2700k with Z77 mobo for $50 off

3570k (189.99) + cheapest ATX Z77 --> AsRock Z77 Pro3 (94.99) - 50.00 is 249.08 after tax for me.

This is in store B&M only though.

I've used seven of these freebie Gigabyte boards for 1045Ts and the cheap B73s/B93s in this thread and every single one of them worked fine without issue. You're either doing something wrong or you got a bad board.

What kind(s) of PSU is burning all this up?

I only run 80+ Silver or higher anymore on new builds.

Efficiency rating is not necessarily an indicator of overall quality. It's more complicated than that. To answer your question, though, all of the systems I've built with these Microcenter combos have Antec Basiq 430W PSUs in them.

Erm sorry, didn't quote the right person.

Was wondering what the other person was using that they were burned up a bunch of boards.

Personally, I have not burned up a board since I cannot remember when.

I believe you are correct that any AMD board will be discounted when bundled with an AMD CPU. But, the 770 chipset is a little older, no reason to get that when 970 is available.

Also, while I can't find the info on that particular board, the other ASRock boards are all 4+1 phase power, and that will limit overclocking, possibly even making it impossible to overclock. You need 4+2 phase for decent overclocking, 6+2 phase or higher for extreme overclocks. The Asus M5A97 is 4+2 phase and M5A97 EVO is 6+2 phase power design. Do your homework if you wish to overclock.

Good to know. I really don't think I am going to take the time to OC the x6 and test stability, just because a good board for that makes it almost a moot purchase for me.
