Phenom II on Asus M3A79-T

I'm attempting to get this system up and runngin today, and I'm getting zero vdeo output. Nothing. Is there a compatibility issue with this motherboard and the new Phenom II 920? It's not posting any video to my screen. Don't have another PCIe card to test if it's the video card either. Here's my specs:

Asus M3A79-T - 790FX
Phenom II 920
4 GB - PC8500 OCZ Fatal1ty
Sapphire 3870 PCIe card - Single
500W OCZ Power supply

I'm having to adapt from teh P4 power to the 8 Pin adapter, but everything else went together without any issues.

Is it a dead MB? Dead Video Card?

Thanks.

I tried resetting the Bios, resetting the RAM and video card. At a loss here. Thinking I'm going ot have to return the MB and try again.

Need more info, really.

If you could find a small speaker and hook it up to the pin header on the mobo you would get a beep code that may help with the diagnosis.

Try booting with one stick of memory. I know GSkill 1066 and OCZ Reaper is on the QVL list - not sure about Fatality. If you can boot with one stick you may be able to enter the BIOS and adjust your voltage and timings.

You may need to update your BIOS - do you have an AM2 microprocessor or may you borrow one?

I tried booting with only 1 stick of RAM. No luck. Only other processor I have is an old AMD Athlon 3200+, non-64 bit.

I'll try the speaker thing, but I have suspicsions that it's a bad MB.

I'll try to find someone with an old chip I can use too, almost ready to give up on this board.

Question: Does the fan on the video card always run or only when it gets hot? When I booth the system the video card fan runs for 2 seconds and then turns off. I thought it just shut down when it wasn't heating up, but can't tell.

Tried hooking up a speaker. Nothing. No beeps.

Anyone have an old AMD AM2 Cpu I can borrow to flash the new Bios?

Video card in the right PCIe slot?

Sounds like your power supply might not be up to par too.

i got the same video card. which means absolutely nothing in this situation.

i've only updated a motherboard BIOS maybe once in my life.

that is such an awesome motherboard. what vintage did you get ? some
of the people in the M3A79 comments section are running Phenom 2's,
obviously recent posts.

i think it's a great combination, that MB and the Phenom 2.

how do you update MB BIOS', anyway ? just download, install from
within Windows, and restart ?
