Its a combined problem, cpu, hard disk drive and maybe onboard lan for online play. I would've bought an SSD and an Intel nic first and then decide switching the CPU.
 
like an onboard nic even one that has no TCP/CRC off loading is going to be any kind of a bottleneck, its not even 1mbit of traffic .

Every little thing matters for optimal performance. I recommend based on personal experience and usage, an SSD, an Intel nic, an internet prioritizer like cfosspeed and an process prioritizer like Process Lasso and its gaming mode makes a difference in games and online play.
 
grimpr: Used to be that Intel NIC cards were far superior but since the onset of onboard gigabit NICs rarely do you see any mention of dedicated NIC cards.
 
Your asking why get a 4 core intel over a 8 core AMD. heres why

First off Intel has HT which in a way gives you 8 cores. You will see 8 cpus in speedfan or taskman

Secondly Intels single threaded performance blows AMD out of the water its not even close. So when you have 8 slow cores of AMD vs Intel 8 fast logical cores... Intel crushes AMD. I mean the cores of AMD are slower much slower then Intel top tier CPU. Soo even tho you have 8 physical cores , each core is soo slow intel can whoop it with 4 physical cores and HT. thx gl

They still are. In my case i saw performance increases compared to onboard realteks, from web browsing to reduced latency/pings to excellent lan tranfers, double that with 100% compatibility in all oses and low cpu usage. Only broadcom chips compare to Intel nics and only on expensive motherboards.
 
You wont regret it. I bought one for running ESXi on blackgriffins proposal for a compatible nic and found out that it rocks in everything, its quality hardware that you will run for years with no problems, and it goes hand in glove with performance cpus and systems, like we say...silk underwear need flexible & smooth asses. lol.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm wondering if you are on windows 8 with your Sabertooth revision1? I'm havening issues with the JMicron controller as well as the USB3.0 from ASMedia.

Asus doesn't provide W8 drivers for either of these, just curious if the problem lies with my setup or if the JMicron and ASMedia devices don't function properly with W8.

No prob. I am not using 8 and I have updated my bios to the latest revision.
 
Funny thing. I noticed they weren't installed so I went to the JMicron web page and found the updated drivers which work well!
 
Did the same thing for the ASmedia site and found the new drivers. They both work well. I think Asus support forgot to update the drivers for Rev1 Sabertooth.
