Phenom 2 future proof

Im about to order a system built for gaming and editing and am having alot of trouble deciding what processor and motherboard to get. I was going to go with.........

but then i started reading up more on phenom 2 and saw that they would work on current 790fx and 790gx amd motherboards. So I was wondering if it would be smart to buy one of these boards with a 9950 and then be able to put a phenom 2 in it down the road when the budget isnt so tight or should i just stick with q6600 build. I like the ability to upgrade down the road so im just trying to get more input on it. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.

And if you happen to think it wouldnt be a bad idea to go the phenom 2 rout would this motherboard be a good choice? http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131331

I would hold off your build until its released if you're really interested in the Phenom II line.

Forget about "future proofing," it's simply a marketing ploy.

I'd hold off until the Phenom 2 is released myself. If its underwhelming, you can still pick up the Q6600 chip and motherboard. If not, we'll know for certain which boards will support it and which won't.

Asus and Gigabyte have announced Deneb support. That motherboard looks great.

I got the Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H with a 'combo deal' X2 4850e 45w last week. I'll ride it out until a price drop on the 45nm Phenom and move the 4850e to an mATX media box.

Just curious as to why you'd use the terms "Phenom 2" in the same sentence as "future proof"?
Of all the products on the market today, "Phenom 2" doesn't jump out as being "future proof" at all.

Go with a Core i7 setup to buy yourself a shred of "future proofing".

Ya I prob should have stayed away from the future proof term. I guess I was just wanting something that I could upgrade to phenom 2 later down the line so I was just kinda making sure that the mobo I posted would support the new phenom processors down the line when I had a little bit more money. I appreciate you guys responses. I think I might actually pick up the board I posted and a cheaper amd processor and then buy a Phenom 2 when they come out. The reason I dont want to go with I7 is price plain and simple. It is way to pricey for me right now.

this is what is called ' suggested wait period' wait till the new stuff if out and well tested for like a mth or 2 and then u can make your choice but till then just get a nice budget solution and save the rest for the new tech.

With Quad-Cores at less than $200, decent motherboards for $50 to $100, and DDR2 memory at $10 a Gigabyte, I vote for buying tested and cheap technology now and buying the new stuff later (after it's tested and debugged).

Truthfully, I'm a bit concerned about those 130 Watt power usage numbers for the new i7 stuff. I'm SO happy about my current silent and cool-running C2D boxes after the noisy and hot P4 processors. I hate to have to start adding fans back and having a hot office again.
