Phelps BEATEN + his WR gone

They should swim naked. No more of these high-tech suits. The guy with the smallest penis wins - less drag.

Edit: although if you can propel yourself with the penis - that's an extra boost in speed.

Based on what I'm seeing, it looks like banning high tech swimsuits is a good idea. Swimming should be based on the athleticism, ability, and training of the swimmer, not on the tech built into the suit.

IMO I disagree. If its the best tech, then all swimmers should naturally adopt it. That allows them to excel even further.

I'm all for this, I might actually give a shit about a sport for once

No pooping in the pool! but if it can propel you faster....

On the one hand, I want to say, yes it was only me. But on the other hand, I have to say, yes, it was also the suit. It was not only the suit, but it is a really big help. I feel no shame to swim (wearing) it, I feel proud to swim in it, but on the one hand, what (time) would you swim without the suit?

I think the suit is problematic. I think the suits make us swim really fast. I honestly think it was worth about two seconds in this race. I really, really hope next year we can go back to the normal one, because it's important for the sport. I think the suits destroy a little bit of the real sport. It's not any more about technique; it's not any more about good starts or turns; it is just, put this thing on and feel really, really fast in the water.

I really believe all the new suits should be banned

Admirable words from a record holder.

And the ability to have sponsorships and/or afford said suits. Those suits are insane and royally screw up the playing field by making it uneven, since outside of the olympics, not every team or individual can afford the suits, or get insane sponsorship.

And nice to see Phelps was relatively humble about the situation, and that he was sticking to his suit that he's been wearing, not opting to upgrade to the super latest. I'd say he'll be at the top of his game when the field is level again at major competitions, since the best suits won't be allowed.

This is the new record holder speaking.. Biedermann or something.

Germany is going APESHIT over this, right now. They are calling him the best German Swimmer ever, and faster than Phelps;

The guy is a bit cocky; even before the World Championship, he said he'd beat Phelps in the 100 and 200 free. Guess he was right.

Expect the 100 free record to fall as well 🙂

Very humble, but still interesting to have those thoughts and yet still made the choice to wear a suit that he knew was extreme, unless this was the very first time he wore the suit and didn't know how much it would cut off his time.

hopefully this means we don't have to hear about phelps anymore. If his victories is because of his suit, that's pretty

Phelps is smart about this; he's still competing now in a suit that will still be legal while the guy beating him will have to downgrade his gear soon.

If you follow the link about the FINA ban, you'll see the following interesting implication:

This decision trickles down to junior swimmers and it is, arguably, bigger news on that level. Too often in the past two years races on a local level were decided by whose parents could afford to buy a LZR. Those suits didn't make bad swimmers good, but they did make good swimmers great.

Its such a joke. Like saying, OK guys, after this year, PED's will be outlawed, so have at it!

I don't see any point in banning the suits now, the benchmarks for each event have already been completely recalibrated.

Google "Ricky Berens swimsuit tear" when you get home. 😉

Yeah the best thing at this point is just to get them cheap enough such that everyone can buy them.

They probably should have done the ban before letting all the world records die. I guess all of these world records will fall eventually, just like all those doped up East German world records eventually fell. It might take a while, though.

I'm on the side to let them wear the new suits. Sports change technologically over time. It just happens in many sports where it's possible. Golf is probably one of the highest rates of change with the new crazy shafts and balls. Tennis has new materials for rackets and strings. The suits don't really cost *that* much in the grand scheme of things. I see them selling online for about 500$ each and a similar ballpark number was mentioned for the cost of a LZR during the Olympics. You probably need a couple in case one rips. So if you're high school or something, yeah, that kind of sucks but there are plenty of sports in high school or in college with those kinds of startup costs (hockey, football, and maybe others). Could let them post sponsors on the suits to make back some of the money similar to soccer jerseys. I'm sure top swimmers could get free suits from the sponsors.

As for Phelps, of course, he's going to get beaten some time. No one can stay #1 forever.
