Phasers or Photon Torpedos?

Why would you even bother with phasers when you have photon torpedos at your disposal? Fire phasers! Oh, that had no effect...hit em with photon torpedos! Why wouldn't you use your most powerful weapon first?

Right...photon...that's what I meant. 😛

Maybe phasers were more cost effective? My guess is they had a limited budget due to the cost of everything in the future. They probably had a cost accountant on board to help make such decisions.

photon torps dn't go pew pew. you need teh pewpew sin a show.

oh also torpedoes are probably limited in quantity.

Photon torpedos only work if the shield doesn't stop them and they don't do much damage to shields.

I think the Enterprise can only carry 200 torpedoes.

Phasers are unlimited, as long as you have power.

Did they use 200 torpedos during the course of their 5 year mission? How much damage and loss of life could have been avoided by simply using the torpedos first?

You must really suck at video games. OMG HIT THAT IMP WITH THE BFG9000. No bullets left! I'll use my fist against this spider demon!

Phasers for short range, torpedoes when I have a good bit of distance for strong targets. Phasers for dealing with trash (even at long range).

Welcome to Starbase 314... we'll resupply your armory shortly. In the meantime, why don't you enjoy some R&R in the zero-grav room or holodeck. Happy hour begins at 1800 hours in the atrium.

Short supply items suck and that's why phasers are better. You could phaser the phuck out of random people you encounter then recharge the batteries using a toyota corolla engine hooked to a generator.

I used to play a lot of Duke Nukem. The rocket propelled grenade launcher was the weapon of choice in that game unless you were right next to the person. Let God sort em out!

Photon torpedoes cause global warming.
ultraviolet phasers cause smog.

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-photochemical-smog.htm
Some of the particulate matter in the air can oxidize very readily when exposed to the UV spectrum. Nitrogen dioxide and various hydrocarbons produced through combustion will interact with sunlight to break down into hazardous chemicals. It doesn't have to be sunny for photochemical smog to form; UV light can also penetrate clouds. The pollutants released through human activity in this situation are known as “primary pollutants,” and they include sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other volatile organic compounds. When these compounds interact with the sun, they form “secondary pollutants” like ozone and additional hydrocarbons.

While ozone is an excellent thing in the upper atmosphere, since it protects the delicate environment of the Earth, it is not desired at ground level. Ozone can be extremely irritating to the respiratory tract, leading to fits of coughing and various medical conditions if exposure is prolonged. The mixture of hazardous pollutants formed by the reaction between UV rays and smog can travel on the wind to rural areas, meaning the photochemical smog does not just impact big cities.

This is why the sun should be illegal.

Remember the terrible TNG episode where the warp drive is fucking up space? And they make a speed limit of warp 6 for all ships as if that's going to fucking do anything and everyone just ignores it all the time anyway since in the future everyone is really busy and all the stuff they're doing is an emergency. The episode's message was that the USA shouldn't drive its tanks so fast anymore and that sometimes you have to blow yourself up to be heard.
