Why does no one ever fire a phaser while running or sweep the beam? They always stop (often in the line of fire or vulnerable to return fire), point, stand *perfectly* still, then fire. I understand the special effects limitations on TOS, but there is simply no excuse for how often they do it exactly like that in later series.

Did Star Fleet train them to never move a phaser beam while firing unless they are cutting something at a ridiculously slow speed? Is that to protect the ship and collateral damage? Well, they sure do miss a lot.

Because pyrotechnics are probably easier to do if there's only one small charge to blow out. :awe:

But yes, given that they should be able to do a variety of canned CGI phaser pyrotechnics.....not much excuse anymore.
Or use the wide-beam setting more often.

Or just use some damn stun grenades now and then. It's apparently easy to make a phaser catastrophically overload just by hitting the right special button combo.

Too bad cellphones don't have that. Li-po cells can store an impressive amount of energy.
"Swipe left to unlock. Swipe right-left-left-right to detonate."

Maybe think of the red shirts like corporate security. They are mainly there to make sure there is no one is tailgating and walk around to keep undesirables out. Starfleet isn't really supposed to be a military organization. Their weapons are mainly defensive. They almost always lose firefights and 1v1 hand to hand combat. Maybe on the battle ships the redshirts are tougher, but they probably don't expect to actually be boarded and have to fight.

I think I remember in the Voyager Elite Force game, the whole premise of the game was that they didn't know how to handle fighting and had to commission specially trained soldiers to handle that kind of stuff.

Not a hand weapon but the 1953 War of the World's Martian war machine would kick ass in either the Star Wars or Star Trek universe. Being able to simply neutralize the strong force in matter is a mighty tough act to follow.

But what if the Force is strong with this one?

You used to do that too? :)

Or the other favourite tactic, when a number of storm troopers are ahead, force pull their weapons from them, then have fun cutting down a load of defenceless people :)

takes too much time.

grip and ledges are my bread and butter. if no ledges to be found, grip and fling into the air.
