Phasers are better than light sabers in every possible way

Light sabers have the inherent problem of all edged weapons. It's funny how you see the Jedi deflecting shots like nothing. Just shoot them in two different places at the same time.

Yeah, it's only a movie 😀

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Jedi are fast enough to block 2 bolts with the saber.

The trick is to shoot THREE bolts not in a straight line.

Then again, they'd probably just use the force to know what you're thinking before you act it out and be prepared to dodge instead of deflect.

They think of everything 😵

Or shoot with a beam width setting that's wider than the blade of the lightsaber.

Unless the firearm is rapid-fire, the third bolt would not reach the Jedi until after the second bolt was deflected. Thus, a rapid-fire weapon or two (or more) weapons would be necessary.

Try doing this with a Phaser..

I have a feeling he'd get pretty severe burns on his hands from having them so close to spattering orange-hot metal.

Seems it'd be safer to stand back and simply fire a sustained phaser blast at the wall. They can pack a hell of a punch when it's plot-convenient. 😛

I just wonder why phaser beams are so slow. Someone once measured it out, and they move around 200mph in the TV show- sometimes slower.

More than one shooter.

Bam, problem solved.

Cuz that's what I do.

I solve problems.

The writers would have to be more creative than the budget allowed. :awe:

Or maybe they could use a stupid workaround for the problem: Maybe it would turn out to be like how humanity once forgot the recipe for cement, and some kind of bad thing happens in our history that causes us to lose the equations for making decent lenses, which they could use to explain why everyone has such horrible aim in the show.

Though that still wouldn't explain why they don't just always use a wide-beam setting.
Or why beam weapons 400 years in the future wouldn't come with scopes or vision systems with automatic aiming.
Or why you wouldn't just use the transporters to beam a threat into space as a puff of subatomic particles.

Force Absorption.

You've never even played the video games, let alone red the books!

😡

GET HIM, GUYS! *grabs pitch fork and torch*

Maybe they're not really beams... like how "lasers" in star wars aren't really lasers. They're supercharged particles fired like a projectile.

Maybe the beams are some kind of similar ... not-beam... uh, beams.

Shrug.

Yeah, the Empire tried that a few times. Turns out that either Parkinson's is much more prevalent in galaxies far, far away, or they get IV coffee in those stormtrooper suits.

That was due solely to the E-11. The weapon had to be produced so fast to account for troop numbers that the precision needed to make a quality weapon was ignored. There are plenty of sharp shooter troopers with alternative weapons. Even Holdout blasters, the tiny derringer-like weapons, are more accurate than the E-11 and they've got like 1/10th the length of barrel.

Sorry.

I'm a huge star wars nerd. 🙁

Yeah, or they made pew pew fly everywhere in the movie because it just looks cool, then later when pressed for details they made up some stuff about mass production.

Buzz Killington, away!

WELL IT COULDN'T BE A MOVIE IF THE STORM TROOPERS SHOT HAN IN THE FACE IN DOCKING BAY 94, GOD DAMMIT. 😵
