It's a pic of my GF's dad taken years ago, unfortunately he's dead now and it seems he had a passion for jags ( he had an XJS and XJ12).

I was just wondering which model this is here, an XJ no doubt, but which one ?

Series II XJ, somewhere between 1973 and 1979. Judging by the grill, I'm going to guess closer to 1973 since the Series I cars also had the cross-hatched grill, while the Series III cars had only vertical bars and the changeover occurred sometime during the middle of Series II production.

If he happily owned a Jaguar from the 1970's, he certainly must have loved them. Those Series II XJ sedans earned Jaguar their reputation for low-quality vehicles.

Edit: 1977 and later cars definitely had the newer grill, 1974 and earlier definitely had the cross-hatched. Still checking to see what year the switchover occurred.

Edit again: There was a logo change on the grill in 1975. The car has to be either a 1973 or a 1974.

Edit once again: Ignore what I said earlier. What I thought was a Jaguar logo change is actually the V12 badge on the grill.

The car is a Series II XJ12 that was built between 1973 and 1975 (inclusive).

Cheers for the homework ZV that's quite an impressive encyclopedia-like knowledge you have , yeah looks like he loved his Jags, although I am not sure the XJ6 or the XF would appeal to him if he was still around  on me

the xj is a great candidate for a v8 swap. the only bad thing is the lucas wiring. if you ever wondered why they called lucas the prince of darkness.... now you know. lucas also makes fridges, the english don't drink warm beer by choice.

but, i had a 75 we dropped a 350 in and that made one heck of a great jag.
