Petrol pump old or new, how to find?

Hi, I have n octavia vrs petrol. Few months ago petrol pump was changed but immediately the vehicle had problems with petrol smell emanating from car heavily. Even the next mechanic wasn't able to identify it. The car wasn't in running condition for month's together. Now another mechanic expert said it wasn't a new one, some old one was replaced. If we take it to the mechanic who cheated earlier, can I claim the money I paid or does the petrol pump have warranty to check it out. How we do it.
