All of this talk about secession makes me wonder if, instead of allowing Texas to secede, we should just kick them out of the union.

(1.) It would essentially guarantee that the Democrats would win all of the presidential elections.

(2.) It would give us a place to exile Tea Partiers, free marketers, and Jesus freaks, allowing us to fix our economy and social policy.

We already have a Texas secession thread

Kick the 2nd most populous, 2nd wealthiest state containing very large reserves of oil and natural gas out of the union? I don't think that's a smart idea lol.

Actually Texas oil is running out. All the new oil is coming from the Gulf in areas closet to Louisian, arkansas, etc.

In January 2011, crude oil production in Texas averaged 962,338 barrels a day. Like other areas of the United States, this production peaked a generation ago and then entered a long-term decline

Alaska is the second-largest oil producer of crude oil with average daily production of 670,553 barrels in February 2011 (includes natural gas liquids

In December 2010, California reported average daily production of 536,800 barrels of oil from both onshore and offshore areas. This doesn't include offshore production from the Outer Continental Shelf that is regulated by the federal government, which typically averages about 35,000 barrels per day

While it's all in good fun, I think this would realistically start a second civil war. I think other states would secede too.

After you kick out Texas; who will be next?

Are you asking for political or economic reasons?

Texas is a blue state with some very aged rural old white haters, kicking them out is pointless, it's only a matter of time before the inevitable puts "conservatism" where it belongs. In the dustbin of the 20th century.

This. Texas will inevitably become a blue state. Just need to wait it out a few more election cycles.

Obviously, it's a sacrifice that has to be made in order to enjoy the benefits.

Sorry, but I don't pay attention to pictures without links to back them up.
I especially don't get my facts from right wing think tanks.

Is that the only reason? It seems to me that from reading other threads, there is more to this anger than just a minority of Texans signing a petition.

Usually, the people who hate Texas the most are the ones who know the least about it. If you ask them they won't understand why they have these very strong feelings for Texas either. In my opinion they use a caricature of Texas as a target of all the negative feelings gathered toward "conservatism".

They think it's generalizing when you say the "South" but not so when you say "Texas". We are represented as racist and backwards. Poor education and race relations are what people expect from us. Only when they see that some of the most racist cities in the US are in the north (Philly, Boston) and some of the best public education can be found in Texas http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools, will they be able to outlet their negative feelings in a more productive manner.

Source: I'm a Texan living in the northeast. Can't wait to get out of here.

Texas has the right to subdivide into 4 additional states if it wishes. This was part of the deal involved in the annexation in 1845. "Original" Texas could have 17% of the Senate seats if this happened.

About 98% of them who want to secede aren't bright enough to pound sand....
