Soo excited. And like someone else said, Gollum should look relatively the same. He was already a pitiful, slimy, lizard-like character in The Hobbit, if I remember correctly. He'll definitely be younger, though.

They even show him as a flashback in one of the LOTR movies becoming the current gollum before he met bilbo.

Bilbo uses the ring a lot in that movie, how are they going to explain the "ring vision"?

But, some points - Bilbo killing a fuckton of spiders? Hellz yeah. 3D Dragon? yes please. Battle of 30 armies or whatever it was called.... gonna be epic! Not so sure about the troll scene....

while lotr is easily a top 5 all time trilogy for me, i was kinda hoping to see del toro's take on the lore. hes got some wild imagination.

failing that, i suppose we wouldnt settle for any other than jackson.

but 3D ruins everything.

What do you mean by 'ring vision'? Do you mean the wavy/blury special effect? That's easy, he's kinda "phased out" so he sees the world differently. Do you mean they need to explain why he doesn't trigger Sauron's attention? That's b/c Sauron wasn't close to fully reformed after his prior defeat and wasn't searching for the ring.

In truth the ring's power increased greatly the more powerful Sauron got (it also increased the closer it got to him). So in the time of The Hobbit, it may have given invisibility without the requisite shadow-vision and fiery Eye of Death.

but 3D ruins everything.

Definitely this.

"NZ Equity's unjustified industrial action against The Hobbit has undermined Warner Bro’s confidence in New Zealand as a stable employment environment, and they are now, quite rightly, very concerned about the security of their $500m investment. Unfortunately lifting the blacklist does nothing to help the situation. This will be the start of a domino effect, as word of NZ's unstable employment environment, registers with film investors and studios, world-wide."

LoL @ NZ, but good for whatever country gets the lucky draw!
