I guess someone with a minor in film studies can explain why the movies did so well at the Oscars if they were not received well critically. :p

The books are far far better than the movies. Not that the movies are bad, but saying they are better than the books is ridiculous.

I've read the books (I have a copy downstairs) and I thought the movies were incredible. As for Hobbit vs LOTR, I actually enjoyed the Hobbit more. It read more like an adventure and I think it was simply better written.
