He's a well known pervert because he was masturbating in a movie theatre right?

Doesn't one have to have sex with a child to be a pedophile? I agree that it's sick to be a collector of child porno but it isn't the same as being a sexual predator. In fact isn't any porno featuring someone under the age of consent child porno? I can assure you that a lot of the porno on the internet would fall into the category. Some of you Kleenex Clowns who collect Porno probably have some form of child prono in your collection.

Being a sexual predator & paying someone to gather photos/video for you is a very fine line, and one law enforcement/lawmakers & I think is largely irrelevant. These folks are NEVER cured, and treatment is not an option, they just have bad wiring upstairs.

The age of consent varies from state to state for various activities, but pedophelia is a whole nother animal.

Looking at pictures of naked 17 year olds is pedophilia.

While I agree it's a crime, I fail to see how people blow up over this and basically want to give the guy the chair (someone said something about removing them from society completely), but when someone commits a murder people hardly ever react this strongly. If he had shot someone, would everyone be saying that "he's a monster and deserves the worst we can give him"? Just a thought.

Do you-all really think the site he was browsing exclusively posted pics of 17 year old girls?

The article says he was buying it not just browsing.

He told them, "Let my love open your [bedroom] door."

From Let My Love Open the Door (Grosse Pointe Blank soundtrack).

Yup, and where do you draw the limit? If i was 20? 25? would it be ok?

17 is still above the age of consent...

I don't understand the argument, how does looking @ pics of naked 10 year old boys fit into this?

Maybe he just wanted to join the site. Nothing wrong with that.
I personally would not do it but it is legal.

It doesn't, actually, my original post was a response to jellomancers "Looking at pictures of naked 17 year olds is pedophilia."

sorry...

Of course, it does not really matter why he was viewing the pictures from a legal standpoint - he had no legal right to possess them. I imagine if he really can persuade the authorities that he had notified Scotland Yard about his receiving the pics BEFORE he signed up for the online service, he may walk away from this - otherwise he has a real problem.

It sounds remarkably like the much-ballyhooed "Riderian Defense" in which you can get a really light sentence by claiming that your felony was committed in the name of "research," but it only works if you are a celebrity.

I think the celebrity aspect of this is interesting, and you can see the side effects of it based on people's responses here. On some level, because we like and trust Townshend, we are less inclined to believe he is a pedophile than if the accused were just a random person. On the other hand, if the accused were, say, Michael Jackson, nobody here would believe that he was truly doing "research" when he purchased a membership to a child-porn website.

If they really want to bust some Peds all they would have to do is confiscate every member of MAMBLA's computers.

It's NAMBLA, but you're right Red...I still cannot believe that organization has not been shut down by authorities.

BTW: Didn't some of the priests recently charged with molesting children speak at NAMBLA rallies many years ago?

Firstly, you are all acting like judge and jury! The police here are in no rush to interview him, so as yet no-one knows if a crime was commited!! He has admitted it was him and did not try to hide it was him. He says he did not download anything and has invited the police to take away his computer for inspection, which they have not done, He joined the website, that is all. Heis an honest guy and would admit it if he was perving! He was stupid to join that site, very stupid, but that does not make him a pervert. only time and the police and courts will be able to judge that, not a load of people airing off opinions that as yet have no substance to them!! If he is a perv then, yes shoot him, but don't make snap decisions before you know what is what!!

This is exactly the phenomenon I alluded to above - none of us has any idea if he is an "honest person," yet we assume that because, well, he is famous. I don't know if he is guilty or not, but his behavior is certainly troubling, and I find his excuse improbable at best.

oh yes lets see. he PAID to get access to a site that has NAKED CHILDREN.

lets see..he is a Musician and NOT a officer of the law. So What the fvck was he "researching"?

so since he was not a officer odds are he was getting himself off.

but it really dont matter since the jackoff will get away with it.

i think some people are just starstruck. you really need to think what you would say if this was a avarage joe.

oh and trying to turn this to me does not change the fact he IS THE PEDO.
