PETA to launch porn site. (No, I'm not joking)

PETA's blatant trampling of other people's rights is what bugs me. Some of the stunts they pull just make them dicks, not advocates.

You want to be vegetarian? Cool. You don't want to wear animal fur? Good for you. But the second you dump paint on someone's coat, or fill an apartment lobby with animal shit, you've crossed the line and should get bitch-slapped back into the real world.

Have you seen a shelter in the US? It's really easy to point out hypocrisy, but where exactly does that website do anything more than bemoan the problem, rather than offer any sort of solution? Shelters are over crowded, under funded, under staffed, and drive some animals mad.

Further, PETA isn't PAAAD. "People Against All Animal Death", I think that "ethical treatment" does not exclude death. Maybe in a perfect world, but in this day and age you have to take what you can get. For me, the biggest issue isn't animals being put down, which is sad but should take a backseat to animal mistreatment, cruelty, and suffering. As such, if an animal is in such a state that it's future is just one of pain, maybe euthanasia really is the ethical course.

We can't know the circumstances under which those animals came into PETA's hands exactly, but the vast majority of them were "Surrendered by Owner" at least. I have a hard time seeing "Surrendered by Owner" animals being those with a bright future; some of them were probably simply put up for adoption then fell into PETA's lap eventually, but I'd bet just as many of them, at least, were those that owner's mistreated and gave up on. Do you think those animals really have much of a future, competing against other non "damaged goods" animals for the increasingly scarce chance at being welcomed into someone's home?

PETA are nutcases who think it's better to kill a perfectly healthy pet than allow it to continue to be "imprisoned" by people. They kill nearly 100% of the animals they take in. By contrast, kill shelters only kill about half of the animals they take in. And of course you have no-kill shelters as well.

PETA is a cruel and hypocritical organization. They don't just want to treat animals well, they act as though animals are exactly the same as humans, and that just doesn't work. They see pet ownership as slavery, even though domesticated pets are hard-pressed to survive if they're not living in a household. Meanwhile, they tend to also hate humans and actually want to treat animals BETTER than humans.

Think of them as the most militant feminists out there, you know, the ones who actively hate men and endorse reverse sexism. I would consider myself an animal rights supporter but I hate PETA, just as I support equal rights between the sexes but I would never identify with certain feminists.

Oh they do a lot of stupid/shitty stuff no doubt, I guess I feel in spite of that, it's at least preferable to not having anyone doing the job at all. I think PETA's problems stem from the top, where the upper level of the organization is basically run by zealots and give themselves a terrible image, but the lower levels of it still do at least some good. I remember going to an open house at a shelter when I was younger and there was a PETA representative there who was actually really down to earth and sincere and knowledgeable. It's not all bad at least, I think the image and initiatives their leadership passes on really hold them back.

You're right, I think most PETA members are such because they just love animals and want to help. Of course they wouldn't think of PETA as a nutcase organization because PETA will try to portray themselves in the most favorable light to the lower echelons of their membership. Those people will mostly continue to just do nice stuff for animals, so that's fine, nothing wrong with them.

But you can't ignore the euthanization rate at their shelters, or the lunacy of how they spend their money. Imagine how much actual good they could have done if they didn't spend so much on advertising.

Does anyone actually take PETA seriously?

Some of these ideas and video footage they release almost makes it seem like they are the ones getting off on this shit.

It's like when you see a weird fetish for the first time and you are kinda grossed out by it. Then the more you see it the more you feel the urge to keep downloading it until you one day catch yourself fapping and feel like a pig.

well i think most of the members genuinely just want to make sure that all animals are treated humanely. That is the main concept and PETA does go too far. They do so to make a point, to raise awareness, but yeah, much of it is excessive.

but i agree that animals shouldnt be tortured, just kill them quick and eat them or leave them be.
