PETA to launch porn site. (No, I'm not joking)

And we're not talking naked animals here... well... maybe SOME of them could be considered animals, but not like any of you would have that experience to validate that.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the animal-rights group known for its controversial ads featuring nearly naked starlets, is taking their "I'd rather be naked than wear fur" idea to a new level by launching their own XXX porn site.

That's right: The same organization that fights to protect animals plans to do so via a medium that often exploits and denigrates women.

"We're hoping to reach a whole new audience of people, some of whom will be shocked by graphic images that maybe they didn't anticipate seeing when they went to the PETA triple-X site," Lindsay Rajt, PETA's associate director of campaigns, told Reuters

The X-rated site will show pornographic content and images from PETA's more risque ads, Rajt said. Those images will be interspersed with pictures and videos showing animals being mistreated—and (we're not making this up) links to vegan and vegetarian "starter kits" and recipes.

"When people first visit the site, it will be very enticing and once they go just a little bit deeper, that's when they'll be confronted with images that we hope will make them stop and think and get them talking and hopefully encourage them to make a lifestyle change to a plant-based diet," Rajt said.

And for the lulz of hypocrisy:

Pornography and feminism aside, PETA has also been criticized for its treatment of the animals it claims to have rescued. According to their own data, filed with the Department of Agriculture in Virginia, in 2010 PETA took in 2,345 homeless dogs and cats—and euthanized 2,301 of them.

Reminds me of a guy I saw today wearing a shirt that said:

Respect ALL life. Become a vegetarian.

I dont mind the idea in principle, but in practice I have found people like that are usually just fine with abortion.

Not that I care one way or the other, its the hypocrisy that bugs me.

And the fact they don't recognize certain things as life. Plants don't live? At what level are we supposed to be "ok" cutting off things to eat?

There are some vegetarian foods I actually like...and I'm fine with abortion.

The key to good vegetarian food is let the ingredients be themselves. There are plenty of tasty things you can make out of vegetables, just don't try and turn vegetables into a fake version of meat.

I prefer vegetarian food, but don't prefer making it. It's always more time consuming. I was vegetarian(heavily meat reduced is more accurate) for a few years. It was great when a girlfriend was doing the cooking, but no so great when I did :^D I don't eat much meat, and will almost always take a vegetarian choice when out, and it's available, but I'm not hardcore about it.

Edit:

That goes with eating it too. I love Boca burgers, but you have to appreciate it for what it is. If you go in expecting a cow burger, you're gonna be disappointed. They just aren't the same, and shouldn't be treated as the same. The only similarity is the general shape.

What a great idea. Establish a Strengthen the link between sex and animal cruelty. What could possibly go wrong?

How is that hypocritical again? I'm a very "pro-animal" person if you would, but that doesn't mean that euthanasia isn't a legitimate (or the best) course of action in some cases. No different than humans, I'm all for living, but sometimes the best treatment is just a peaceful end. I think you can advocate for life without blindly ignoring how euthanasia can be right sometimes.

MorningStar makes some damn good fake meat. I tried several of their over priced stuff, it looks like the real thing and tastes very good. i got addicted to their buffalo chicken nuggets there for a while but too pricey.
Now their bacon is the exception..it tastes like bacon bits

but i don't care if its real or fake, as long as it tastes good and is affordable. Of course there is real meats out there that taste like crap.

It's more that they simply don't care enough to try and place the animals.

Have you seen a shelter in the US? It's really easy to point out hypocrisy, but where exactly does that website do anything more than bemoan the problem, rather than offer any sort of solution? Shelters are over crowded, under funded, under staffed, and drive some animals mad.

Further, PETA isn't PAAAD. "People Against All Animal Death", I think that "ethical treatment" does not exclude death. Maybe in a perfect world, but in this day and age you have to take what you can get. For me, the biggest issue isn't animals being put down, which is sad but should take a backseat to animal mistreatment, cruelty, and suffering. As such, if an animal is in such a state that it's future is just one of pain, maybe euthanasia really is the ethical course.

We can't know the circumstances under which those animals came into PETA's hands exactly, but the vast majority of them were "Surrendered by Owner" at least. I have a hard time seeing "Surrendered by Owner" animals being those with a bright future; some of them were probably simply put up for adoption then fell into PETA's lap eventually, but I'd bet just as many of them, at least, were those that owner's mistreated and gave up on. Do you think those animals really have much of a future, competing against other non "damaged goods" animals for the increasingly scarce chance at being welcomed into someone's home?

Ok so the point of the website is that I see tortured animals and I'm supposed to jerk off to it? Sounds like fun
