PETA is going to blow a gasket.

China online stores offering cat and dog skin products.

Thousands of products made from the skins of cats and dogs are being offered on China's largest retail website Taobao, sparking outrage among animal lovers, state media reported Tuesday. Search results and sales records from Taobao showed the most popular items were trousers and hats made from dog fur, which is touted for its ability to ward off the cold, AFP found after searching the website.
One seller with the username "sjz2ys" boasted that all the cat skin products available in his online store were authentic, though he had only sold one item -- a waistcoat -- in the past month, the Shanghai Daily said.
Animal rights activists said dealers usually targeted stray animals, selling their skins to fur traders in the country's east and the meat to restaurants in the south.

I don't mind leather product... whats wrong with them? unless its some kind of endangered or exotic species. There are abundant domestic and stray animals in the world, I don't care if they are killed for skin and meat. hell, every now and then some dog or cat would come and poop in my yard, some random dog will keep barking all night and keep me awake, guess how I fell about them!??!

Don't have to be remotely associated with PETA to find that repulsive.

Their culture may find cat and dog leather common, who are we to tell them otherwise? It's no different than a leather coat. Unless you are in India I suppose. Cow's are sacred or some crap there.

Tonight while I enjoy my burger, someone half a world away is likely enjoying a catburger. Eww.

High heat conductivity. Bad bad shit. If you want to stay warm, leather is not good. My parent have leather couches and I always hate sitting on them in winter 🙁

The warmest clothes are the ones with the most air pockets. That would be stuff like big puffy gortex coats

Clothes that don't fit properly are good too. Tight fitting clothes will conduct a lot of heat because the material is touching you all over. Wearing a jacket that is way too big will leave a lot of air space between you and the coat material; air is a good insulator.

leather is great as an exterior shell, though. Air pockets and insulation are certainly much better for warmth, but a nice leather skin is great at wind protection. It's worked quite well for hundreds of millions of years for large, hooved herbivores. (they also have great internal insulation) :\

That why you wear a lined leather coat. I got one that is lined with some material that looks a bit like short fur, used to be really nice in winter. Otherwise you're right, keeps the wind and rain out but not necessarily the cold.

I can respect someone for not using animal/fur products at all. Those that differentiate between animals OTOH....

1) Chinese culture is different

2) PETA isn't even recognized in China.

3) Why should an organization in the US care about whats going on in China?

4) Fuck PETA
