PETA = child brainwashers. Milk Sucks?

This is about as bad as the worthless gay lobbies comming to your school via government and forcing acceptance of homosexuality, which should be discouraged and rejected.

From what I have read, I am convinced that cows milk is not good food for humans. You are in fact the ones brainwashed by the huge dairy corporations and their BS "Milk is Good for you" advertising.

I don't have to convince anyone. I don't care . . . for all I care, you milk lovers can drown in milk and force feed it to your children.

The scientific research is there if you are really interested in the health benefit/risks. I have not drank any milk for many years and feel I am the healthier for quitting it.

I don't care to convert anyone to my way of thinking. I absolutely do NOT agree with PETA's methods and I never will support them. Strangely, in this circumstance they happen to be right.

Milk is FAT. One of the highest percentage fatty "natural" foods you can intake. It is hard to digest. Many people as they grow older become lactose intolerant. Add to that the antibiotics and hormones the factory run cows are subjected to . . . well, never mind . . . enjoy that glass of milk.

Milk is bad for you, apples are bad for you, fat is bad for you, potatoes are bad for you, soy is bad for you, water is bad for you, meat is bad for you, vegtables are bad for you, grains are bad for you, carbohydrates are bad for you, pasta is bad for you, fruit is bad for you, PETA is bad for you, dairy is bad for you, beans are bad for you (make ya fart ya know 🙂 ), pork is bad for you, chicken is bad for you, shellfish is bad for you, fish is bad for you, blah, blah, blahad...nausium.

the list goes on and on and on.

I can't debate any of this without looking like a retard in the special olympics. I will add fuel to my own fire however - I do remember reading a few articles and speaking with my doctor. Apparently milk increases the risk of kidney stones? no proof, just word of doctors mouth. then again he could be as full of it as I.

What about nonfat Milk?

damnit, now what can I dunk my chocolate chip cookies into?

Coke? :disgust:

I love milk but am trying to reduce my intake. The fact remains that a lot of our foods are made from milk, especially everything that has cheese or something in it. How can one live a dairy-free when so much stuff is made from milk?

When you think about it, almost everything you eat is dangerous for you, up to a point.

apoppin,

What do you eat and drink then? Just about everything out there has had a study at some point saying it is bad for you. I don't buy into all this milk causing sickness crap. I for one have been drinking milk my entire life and at age 26 I haven't been to the doctor or missed work for a common cold or flu in over 10 years. I have personally never even had the flu. I refuse to take the flu shots they give away free at work. I think my milk has kept me from geting these common illnesses or maybe it is all the sacrin in my sweet n low.

<Next time you're flat on your back and sick with the Flu, remember all that milk you drank. BTW, I have no idea What the fvck PETA is, as well. >

Huh? I drink a gallon of milk a week. Last time I had the Flu or was even sick was about 6 years ago (before I started drinking milk regularly). I don't see the relation between Milk and Flu, could you please explain (and please provide links to reputable medical sources).

Thanks.

humans have been drinking the milk of animals for as long as we have been domesticating them. after 5000+ years there is only a problem w/ it now?

Slap, please don't be concerned about what I eat and drink. I am certainly not worried about what you injest. Everything on this forum is opinion - some more informed than others.

I can only relate what I have read and the studies I have seen. My conclusion is that Milk is not good for everybody (in fact the dairy industry was sued a few years back for that slogan and had to retract that statement "for everybody". Most people of African descent are lactose intolerant).

If milk works for you, it is fine with me. Not drinking milk works well for me. The old statement is general but may be applied here "one man's meat is another man's poison."

However, the studies are there for the reading . . . just do an internet search on "milk" or link to the scientific opinion offered by PETA. I am way too lazy to look it up again (there was another discussion here many months ago that required research regarding an AT Forum member that loved milk but could no longer digest it as he got older - which is all too common). Nothing ever came of that discussion and nothing will come of this one . . . the people who like milk are not going to stop and I don't want to interfere with their "enjoyment" of milk. Just be aware that there is another valid viewpoint that excluded milk from their diets.

EDIT:

<< humans have been drinking the milk of animals for as long as we have been domesticating them. after 5000+ years there is only a problem w/ it now? >>

Humans have been drinking more goat and sheep's milk than cow's milk until recently. Also, in olden times it was common to nurse a human child until age 4 or 5 and animal milk played a much smaller role in the diet.

<< Slap, please don't be concerned about what I eat and drink. I am certainly not worried about what you injest. Everything on this forum is opinion - some more informed than others. >>

I am not concerned with what you eat or drink. I was just wondering if you base all your food and liquid intake on studies. That's all. Do you remember all the studies on eggs? I am still not sure if they are good or bad for you.

Everything in moderation is the word of the day. I doubt drinking a glass of milk a day will hurt anyone. On the other hand drinking half a gallon a day may be. Then again drinking a can of beer or a glass of wine a day isn't harmful, where as drinking a 6pack of beer or a bottle of wine a day probably is.
Peta isn't going to stop anyone from drinking milk. (Well I have to because of a mild lactose intolerance, so soy milk for me)
If I could drink milk I would drink it. I don't see the harm in it as long as it's in moderation.
Milk is advertised as a good source of calcium. Noone has proven that to the contrary to me at least.

Anyways what PETA is doing is pretty rude. Now if the school wanted to give them a hint of what being rude is... They could have an outside bbq in front of the peta protestors.

"mmmmm I do say, that is delicious cheeseburger. Could I get a glass of milk to go with that?"

Edit: The reason I'm annoyed at PETA is because they are doing this to children. Grown adults capable of making their own decisions is one thing, but children are more susceptible to influence. I don't think it's right to try and influence children like this especially when a lot of what they are saying sounds like half truths.

<< I was just wondering if you base all your food and liquid intake on studies. That's all. Do you remember all the studies on eggs? I am still not sure if they are good or bad for you >>

No, not on studies although I certainly read them. I then do what I want to in my own life and see the results of my actions.

As I remember, the "bad" chloresterol of the egg white was "balanced" by the yolk. The final suggestion was to eat them but not in great quantity.

I will restate: what is "bad" for someone may be "good" for someone else.

The worst think is to be so frustrated that you forget "enjoyment" of the things in life. Somewhere, "balance" and "moderation" also comes into play. (but enough of my philosophy) 🙂

EDIT: I also AGREE that PETA's methods really suck. They aren't too smart as an organization or they'd realize their extreme methods are driving normal people to the opposite point of view even if they do (occasionally) happen to be right. 😉

what's the diff between drinking sheep/goat milk vs. cow milk? obviously health wise there is, but the main point peta is trying to make is not that drinking milk is unhealthy, but that penning cows up and steeling their milk is. (PETA= people for the Ethical treatment of animals) PETA couldn't care less if u died from drinking milk, as long as a cow is not put in a barn.

Come on now! Homosexuals do exist. Should we pretend they don't? If parents aren't going to do their job, someone should.

digestability

<< obviously health wise there is, but the main point peta is trying to make is not that drinking milk is unhealthy, but that penning cows up and steeling their milk is. >>

As I said before, PETA's methods are wrong even though their heart may (or may not) be in the right place regarding animals.

Regarding milk, PETA is grasping at straws (get it?) Their goal is to make the dairy industry look bad (it does anyway, IMO) and if milk's healthyness is in question it is just another tool they can use.

I dont think one should argue that milk is bad for you, since everything that is good is bad for you...

the point that you should argue is that it is not necessary as good for you as you (if you are like me) were taught when you were brought up. The preservatives in the milk arent good for you. Are you gonna get sick cause you drink milk? not as sick as u get if you stay up 3 nights in a row doing work or going out, but am i gonna stop doing that?no...
plus lotsa parts of the world dont drink milk...and do they start falling over cause their bones are to brittle? no.

Most of the races on this planet have a history of being lactose intollerent, because its not in their history to drink a lot of dairy products. Asians for example are very likely to have lactose intolorance, or are more likely to get it in the future. White people from the midwest are probably the least likely to have it...

but anyway enough about that...i hate PETA...down the street from me they used to have a billboard that said in big letters, "I HATE MENS GUTS"...and i had to see that every day when i drove home...i hate them

<<On the other hand drinking half a gallon a day may be.>>

And then there are people like me. 😛 I drink probably a little over a quart and a half of whole milk every day. I've done so for the past year and a half and have yet to experience any negative side effects from doing so. Also, aside from a very mild cold and some allergies (which have gotten progressively better over the last year and a half) I have not been sick in the past two and a half years. I certainly cannot connect this to the increased consumption of milk, but I like to think that this goes a little bit of the way towards refuting some of the claims against milk. I do not disagree that milk can be very bad for individuals who are lactose intolerant, and I certainly do not think that I am indicitive of the average man in regards to my experience with milk. My personal opinion is that unless the person is lactose intolerant or has otherwise experienced problems that can be reasonably traced back to dairy foods, then milk is perfectly fine if ingested in moderation.

Hmm... I've drank milk at least 3 times a day for just about all of my life. Let me tell you, it has sucked having healthy bones and teeth!

OH SNAP....my stomach feel like sh*t right now...ugh...

[Start sarcasm]damn it, it must have been that milk i put in my coffee this morning [end sarcasm]

Try soybean drink, great with cereal too.

no one seems to care that we shove our bodies full of things like coca~cola.. which are obviously far worse for them than milk. obviously milk is a good thing if they make soybean drink try and taste like it. 🙂

I am reading this thread while eating a PB and J with a big glass of MILK. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Good!!!!!!!

I find it funny how lots of people in this thread are making comments along the lines of "i drink milk all the time and it never affects me negatively, therefore milk can't be bad!", just like all those people who state "I've been smoking for 10 years and im still fine, smoking can't be bad!". This is not to say that milk is anywhere near as bad as smoking, but just because something doesn't affect you personally does not mean it has no affects whatsoever

I would value PETA's opinion if the majority of their members knew what they're talking about. There migh have been 10 'higher ups' that have actually seen these farms that are so horrible where cows are being abused... and they brainwash everyone else that all farms are run this way. Hello... fact of life: Animals must die if we want to eat them, unless of course u want to go truly natural and eat them b4 they die ala lions and stuff.
I dunno, being that I grew up on a farm, I know the realities of farming, and that it isn't half as bad (in the majority of farms) as PETA claims it to be.
