As for soda/pop... how about a "bicarbonate"? If someone is really anal about using a specific term then avoid the common dichotomy and rather throw the really queer schtuff their way: start calling any such beverage a sarsaparilla. After awhile change it to sarsasparill-ee (note insertion of extra "s"). Meanwhile be sure to watch for signs of the victim's breakdown -namely facial tics and so on.

When I go to canada I will say pop, but when you come here please just say soda.
