I live in East Bay california and see ads for pet ducks. Like in the penny saver you can get 2 ducks and a swimming pool (I assume the little kiddie pool) for like $20. How do you keep them from flying away in the winter? Do poeple keep these things in their house like on Friends (you know Joey's the chick and the duck)? I think that would be cool to have a couple of ducks waddeling (sp?) behind you as your walk around your house or your yard. Do you know someone who has them or think this would work?

the poop is nasty and will get EVERYWHERE. think of it....really. It is disgusting. I had this friend in junior high who's dad had geese and ducks and kept them in a pen outdoors, and THAT stunk and poop was everywhere.

disgusting.

Do NOT get a duck as a pet. They are wild animals and you cannot deal with them once they become adults. I don't even want to think about how many ducks have been killed as a result of those Friends morons.

Well wild ducks are wild animals but if you get a duck as a duckling I see no reason why it wouldn't act like a normal pet. People have all sorts of strange pets. But ya I hear their poop is really oily and that's the worst part.

Ducks can be damn mean. I had one as a kid and if it was in a bad mood it would raise welts on my leg by biting me. I used to get even by playing "Kick the Duck", though.:|

Yeah - don't get a duck as a pet...I was bit by one as a kid. They are not domesticated, so why would you want one?

pet it then eat it

i agree it's probably not a good pet. the poop alone would be a major problem.

do you understand the multitudes of sh!t produced by one duck? Just don't do it.

"they are funny" until you get bored of it, neglect it, and it dies because you lose interest.

I also don't think it's a good idea, you really can't provide a good home for it.

Try Quail. :)

I had ducks when I was a kid. The first was Bucky, he was very cool and friendly, never bit anyone, and would come to you to get his head scratched. A few years later we got a second one, we named him Ducky (dont laugh). Ducky was a hellspawn. He would chase any living creature (other than Bucky) around the yard, down the street, he would even climb steps to get at you. All the neighbors and thier pets lived in constant fear. He even killed a rabbit once.

They were both the white "domesticated" type of duck, not wild. Then one summer some sort of animal got into their cage at night and killed them both. I still have pictures of them.

Yes, they do poo a lot, they poo more than they eat, its not natural, ever 8 to 12 seconds... squirt squirt.
