What kind of stuff do all you personal webpage creators have on your page that have made it worthwhile for your visitors? or what kind of stuff do you all like to see on personal web pages? I'm starting a new site, and I don't want it to be a horrendous failure like the last.

A well layed out page, thats easy to figure out. A topic that interest a lot of people, colors that match, nice font size and color. Not to much text. Text that include pictures.

I can tell you that people come back for more when they see new things. It's a simple idea, but it works. We recently put it in a Media Database which carries movies, sounds, wallpapers and more, which did bring in more visitors than normal. Other than that, keep people coming back with regular news updates, new features, new tutorials, whatever your site is based on do more of it. Basically, if you want to improve the success of your site you have to keep visitors coming back for something. If they see something old, chances are they aren't going to visit again, if they see that you've updated then they'll keep coming back to see what you've got for them. Other than that, there's the age old saying, "Keep it simple stupid," I've learned that cluttered sites or sites with TOO much information are useless to visitors. If they want to get something, they want it fast, they don't wanna search around your site for hours.

Programs I use: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro & many books/resources for coding if necessary

I have the same problem where people usually don't come back for 2nd visits. I'm trying to combat that problem with putting up personal projects and adding pictures (tho it's passworded right now)... just enhancing the site throughout almost everyday... I get about 5-10 people a day from posting messages like this... people see my URL on the bottom of my posts so they CLICK ON IT. 😉

It's tough though... not many reasons to go back to a personal page.

Lots of updates is also important. You should update at least once a day if you can.

And once you get a layout that you like and that attracks people, stick with it. I can't stand it when someone changes there web site around.

Don't make a site that requires a particular browser or program to view. Flash is ok for parts of the site but don't make it a requirement to see anything. Some people don't use those programs and don't run windows and IE.

I agree with that Flash comment... however some people do it just to do it. Some people use it to learn the tool. That's why it's a PERSONAL page. Just my .02. 😉

You have to be able to firstly offer a very very very unique and innovative design that nobody has seen before. Once people realize your skills are apparent, they will look at your content. Content makes your page, giving interesting food for thought, personal opinions on public matters, ect.

Updated graphics with your latest and greatest creations, aswell as links to interesting pages on the net.

ect, ect ect.
