Recently, I've taught a beginner-level web design course with emphasis on personal homepages.

I'm compiling a list of useful books, reference sites, reliable free hosts, etc, but it's been many years since I last designed a personal page on a free host, so it's pretty tough for me to decide which companies are good.

Here are what I need:

1) Good free hosting services (Company name + URL please)

2) Free counter / site stats

3) Namezero.com-style site (offers "free domains" etc)

4) Any good HTML/CSS/easy DHTML reference/tutorial sites

5) Background images/clip arts gallery sites

6) Anything else you can think of

If you could help me out ASAP, it will sure help me a lot.

Thanks guys!

Free hosting? Maybe ncbi.com? 20m.com? Geocities? Counters are usually provided by the hosting serivce though it has banners. Is benseen.com still up? They used to have that kind of stuff. Tutorials? Not sure, I picked up a few books back in the day. I'm not a big fan of background images, I'm more of a solid color/texture guy.

I personally use NBCi.com, unlimited space, plus you can get rid of the advertisements fairly easily. Think you can get rid of them on Geocities too, but never tried.
