I'd been playing "next-gen" games for almost a year now, when I suddenly decided to go back to my PS2 and play some of the games I never got around to playing before. Well, I picked up Persona 3: FES and Persona 4. I liked 3 (except The Answer, which I thought was pretty mediocre). Recently, I started playing Persona 4.
All I can say is...wow. This game is phenomenal. The characters are fantastic. The music beats any game I've played to date. The story (so far) is thrilling and interesting. The humor has me laughing, in fact, out loud frequently. I've never had a game that got me this involved with the individual characters. They feel...real. My heart goes out to Dojima and his struggle to come to terms with the loss of his wife and being a single father. Yosuke is the kind of guy I could see myself hanging out with after class (back when I was in high school anyway). Chie is a "one of the guys" kind of girl that everyone knows.
Technically, there are a few things that I disliked in the transition from 3 to 4. Penalty cards on the "Shuffle Time" minigame piss me off. No Homunculus items to eat those Hama/Mudo skills can be frustrating when your main character gets gibbed 3 hours into a dungeon. Social skills can be frustrating to level, they are a bit more intuitive in how they do so. However, compared to everything else, these things are incredibly minor.
if you have not played this game, you're robbing yourself of one of the best gaming experiences to date.
