So, I stopped in Grand Rapids for 2 days earlier this week.
We went to Founders and Hopcat, and had an awesome time.
At Hopcat, they had on tap this Wood Aged 1885 Kona Coffee Porter.

It was my very first experience with a Perrin brew, but holy hell what a first impression. So, I tried a Perrin Imperial Stout as well. Great delicious flavor.

We went to the hotel at like midnight or 1am or whenever (Fiancee was driving thankfully.)

Next day, we went out to Commstock Park to go to Perrin.
And we drank quite a bit.

WOW

Perrin Brewing Company, Wood Aged 1885 Kona Coffee Porter

It is simply amazing. They have oak aged imperial stout, a 12 pct abv malted milk ball beer, and several other fancy/expensive/high end beers...

But this Coffee Porter, this was the stare of the show, the star of the trip, the great greatness of deliciousness in perfect concentration.

Added bonus, my fiancee "likes" 2 beers. Sahtea from Dogfish Head, and The Raspberry from Founders.

Now, she likes 3, and has a favorite. The Raspberry Blonde from Perrin. It's very light and crisp, almost like a good cranberry juice. Tastes a bit dry, and goes down easier than anything I've ever tried before.

That Kona coffee porter sounds amazing. I tried a Kona porter when I was in Hawaii and it was very good, but this one sounds better.

its not old..just the cheapest tallboy I can find at the beer store.

OK. It's good to be budget conscious and also to drink what you like.
I wish these guys sold at the beer store, but it's only distributed to bars on tap. Thankfully, it's relatively inexpensive compared to most "craft" ales. It was like $15 or so for a growler of the Kona Porter, and it was even less for many of the other styles of brews. And their tacos were like $1.50 each. Essentially, I could get drunk and have dinner for $20.

Back in my restaurant days we used to take a half glass of Guinness and combine it with a half glass of cold coffee. Truly the breakfast of champions.

Op, I've got another your gf will like. Strawberry ale from Samuel Smith's brewery in England. You would like their Taddy Porter.

itt beer snobs come extolling their favourite brews. ugh!

Ehh, I don't see anybody mentioning KBS.

We are simply talking about "normal strength" and affordable great beers here. This stuff is like $15 a pitcher at a bar, not $10 a bottle hyper expensive flavor monsters.

If they sold tall boys at the liquor store, they would probably be in the same price range as Corona and all the other cheap lagers that cost 50 cents a gallon to brew.

I've just been getting into drinking beer again. So far, it's just been Guinness and Yuengling, but I need to check out some of the small offerings. Currently drinking Pikesville rye whiskey. I *highly* recommend this for those who want a good whiskey on a budget. $12.50 a bottle, and it's very flavorful and smooth. It has a nice oily mouth feel, and the grain really comes through. It reminds me of an Irish pot still, but at a third of the price.

He's on vacation.

Back on topic...I had a Founders porter in a nearby town....I want to say it was an 1885 one. Had a coffee flavor to it...and 10.5% alky by volume. I liked, but I wouldn't sit down and drink more than 2.

Rasputin is the only russian imperial stout I've been able to find on tap semi locally. Really like the flavor and taste, but another high ABV beer and need to remind myself not to drink it like light beer swill.

A good guinness alternative for chicagoland folk, Revolution Brewery Eugene was a hit on St. Pats last year. I drank plenty of them.

Oh nice, Rasputin. They do barrel aged Rasputin too, worth checking out if you can find it.

Spending the rest of the day trying to finish a keg of Dogfish World Wide Stout, got about a gallon left.
