No I hate that place I don't talk to those ppl. Besides they make up bullshit just to get me to leave them alone.

Thats true everyone knows the Orthodontist/Dentist is out to get you.

I had a million questions and they find ways of brushing me off saying that this is like this, that, the other.

that tells me nothing. i'd like to know what bs they made up. likely they were answering your questions and
a. you were just talking and not listening
or
b. they need to put it in more simple terms so you can understand.

hardyfvckinghar. If anything it's the 'simple' terms that pisses me off. When I want to know the process of filing teeth, retaining and otherwise as well as the course of my treatment, they do not want to discuss it. They have a CG program that calculates a formula for tooth mass based on variables that they never want to discuss. They have a 'plan' for each patient and the interns are the ones working on my teeth. The ortho is too busy. I asked them questions about raising or pulling down teeth to level gum tissue and that is one thing even they did not know answers too! In the end they are perfect and I hope I never have to see them again. I can only hope my permanent retainer lasts for a decade. That's why I ask.

If the permanent retainer lasts anything as long as the braces themselves, then I gauge the adhesiveness will last no longer than 1-2 years. After that I don't know what to do. I don't want to wear the invisalign retainer. The thing doesn't even stay in, it pops out on it's own.
So you expect them to give you a crash course in orthodontics? You seem smart enough, seek your own answers to some of those questions. The internet contains a wealth of knowledge.

Or else PM me your questions. I'll try to answer them since you hold the belief that your Orthodontist and Staff just bs you to try and get rid of you.

I don't think you have a "permanent retainer". Permanent retainers are cemented in place. You sound like you have a "removable retainer", and they *do* pop in and out. Just wear it as instructed and relax. If you feel like it isn't fitting properly then get an appt and have them adjust it for a better fit.

jesus. My retainer is a wire that's Glued onto the inside of my teeth!!! I mentioned that like 10 times in this thread. I was given a warped invisialign retainer that I have never worn. My wire is not removable. I was wondering how long the 'cement' would hold it's adhesion. It's more like plastic glue than cement.
Control your swearing.

Yeh, I was just reading this thread, usually I skip over your posts, so I must've did that and missed where you confirmed you had a cemented lingual retainer. (Lingual means "inside" or your "tongue side" - see there's a dental snippet for you.)
It threw me when you said it was popping out on its own. Cemented retainers should never do that.

It is cemented, not glued. If it is moving at all you should get back to your ortho's office and have them re-cement it. Period. You may have to do this a couple of times, but it shouldn't be frequent unless they aren't cementing it properly.

You're welcome.

No thanks.

If you don't plan to read my posts (excuse) why would you click on a thread that I created?! And I never said it was moving, I said my teeth still feel sore all these many months. On top of that I wanted to know what's the typical lifespan of a cemented retainer. Yes my invisalign retainer is popping out on it's own. It's a deformed POS.

I'll throw my quick 2 cents I've had a permanent bottom retainer for almost 6 years now. Your teeth will be sore for a few months then you'll hardly notice the retainer is there. I've never had any problems with mine as far as being loose or cutting my tongue. Only problem is that it will occasionally set metal detectors off at the airport...which can be a pain if you get a butthead TSA worker.

Thank YOU! I'd rather not have any response than one that doesn't even read the original post. On top of that, all you contribute is "go see your dentist/ortho!"

yeah? 6 years is great. It's still intact and your teeth haven't shifted?

I'm on year 8, its still fully intact and my teeth have barely shifted. I remember it making my teeth feel sore at first though.

I asked about getting it out, and my dentist said leave it in for as long as I can stand it as the longer its in there, the less likely my teeth are to shift.

I found that the retainer that came out (I had two, fixed bottom, pop out top) never seemed to fit right. I still wore it tho, and things seem to have turned out fine.

For me it was because they had to correct an overbite, so it had something to do with that.

I can't honestly compeletely remember, I just know I had a orthodontist I trusted, and thats what he thought was right, and well, he was :)

I no longer wear the upper retainer, just have the bottom one still in.

Now, with just the lower retainer, I eat everything. I have had toffee, pretzels, etc. The cement they use is strongs stuff. I don't eat this stuff very often, but I don't fret over any kind of food.
