So, when I am Windows I sometimes like to listen to music or watch a movie whilst doing something else. I have noticed that quite often Windows will allow the music to skip or the video to stutter when really, there is no call for it. For example, I open up the Start menu, and while it redraws the icons for the 50th time that day, the music will skip. I can set the priority to High, but I have to do that everytime I re-open the program. Is there a way to set this permanently?

Um, how would I make said batch file?

Or is there perhaps a way to make Windows not neglect general media playback?

Windows isn't neglecting your media player, it's your media player's job to buffer enough and I believe there are APIs available to tell the OS that it's a latency sensitive app in order to get shorter, more frequent timeslices. What player are you using?

The problem occurs in WMP12, Zune and VLC. Though VLC does it the least, WMP12 and Zune do it the worst, which should be surprising since I think that Zune is a re-skinned WMP11/12.
