Perl Based eBay Bidding Agent

Does anyone know of a free bidding agent for eBay, preferably written in Perl? There are a number of auctions I've watched over the past few weeks that end way after my bed time (so I never get a chance to bid successfully). If I had an agent I could run to bid for me, I could avoid such problems.

All the scripts I find with Google are about running an auction site like eBay, not bidding on eBay. Any ideas or suggestions?

Some newbie always bids a million times against you, not understanding the concept of proxy bidding. If everyone understood proxy bidding, I would do this very thing. But because people will sit there bidding for 10 minutes, just to outbid you, it's not worth it.

Sniping is the only way to win something (at a lower price) using eBay's current auction model. They should switch to the model where auctions end XX minutes after the last bid. Both buyers and sellers would benefit.
