Alky was the single biggest loss for this forum IMO. It has gone downhill ever since.

alky was a big one. probably the biggest losses i noticed were:

- alky
- mosh
- the flying pig
- can't remember his name, but that hillbilly who had like 50000 posts and let someone take his account and get him banned. i think it started with an r?
- monggrel
- casiotech
- dennilfloss :(
- spaceman
- rakehelion and newell steamer (of all people i thought i wouldn't miss)

Assuming no changes, this forum has no future. The hardware/technical forums pick up some activity around major releases/launches.

I think if the main site and forums were integrated and AnandTech launched a more active focus on YouTube reviews (at least in a supplemental fashion, like Gamers Nexus and PC Perspective do) and PC gaming there would be some new membership.

Anandtech gets cited a lot but it's not seen as a community.

Put me on that list. I can't handle Reddits layout. Maybe just the way my brain has been wired.
Reddit's good for links to articles. The discussion sucks, and after a day, you might as well not say anything. It'll either be lost amongst 1,000 comments, or no one's looking anymore. Reddit's like a refined 4chan. Forums are better for sustained discussion.

that's true for the big subreddits, but smaller subs can be good

I disagree with your opinion, therefore I will log into Reddit with my 20 alt accounts and downvote your comment into oblivion ;)

More kitchen appliance threads?

I dunno. I've been into mini computers for a few years now, which don't really count as computer-building because you're literally taking out 4 screws to pop in a small SSD & a couple sticks of RAM, so the tech aspect isn't huge on my list these days.

No custom ITX builds?

Everything dies at some point. This forum really was awesome back in the day, but I feel like it's just going through a slump; it can be saved. Some of you fucking lurkers reading this post need to sit down and post. Like Soapy Bones, or THRiLL KiLL. One of you could be the next Alky, banging everyone's mom. Or the next TridenT, sticking your peepee through Froot Loops holes while vacuuming your stainless steel garbage can.

I bet somebody or a group of us could whip up some sort of AI algorithm that scans through all the posts by old members and starts posting as them.

We need to merge this idea with the nefcoin idea somehow. Kind of like a neffing competitor to kodak coin. I would pay shitty computing power and the corresponding energy usage to make this happen.

Red Squirrel has a whole server in his basement. I bet he could donate a good amount of computing power for this. I read that they use moose to generate power in Canada, so it's dirt cheap.

Maybe that's the problem... 15 years ago most members were young and free of responsibilities like dumb kids to care for. Now they have soul-sucking jobs, satanic children, crappy houses to maintain, and creaky old hips that prevent them from sitting at a computer for too long. ATOT needs more youngsters, but can us old farts even relate to them?

In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you
In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube
In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the judgment day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down, and start again
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing
Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday
In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find

Not for awhile now :( You can get mini boxes with 1080's built-in now, and eGPU boxes if you want a Ti in there. The only stuff I really build professionally these days are the occasional custom whitebox server or DCC rig. Mmm, 24gb Quadro 6000's.

I looked into starting a coin called gingercoin but it's already taken. :(

But that also means my computing resources will be available for nefcoin mining.

I’m still waiting on the ICO for Nefcoin. As the guy who came up with the idea, I better get a chunk of the premine!

Actually zenforo is one of the most modern forum software out there. Not everyone likes reddit.

This site is primarily a tech site so it's not exactly going to pull in a ton of new people like other sites would.

I have to say it runs remarkably well. Now site responses are most of the time instantaneous.
When the forum just went over that was a bit different.
I like zenforo a lot. Beyond 3D also has zenforo, at least it looks a lot the same. Reddit i do not like.
