Performance RAM Prices

I am helping my friend upgrade his comp, he has $400 to spend on a CPU/Mobo/RAM and a heatsink. Right now I'm hooking him up with a XP Mobile Barton 2400+ and a NF7-S V.2. RAM is a touchy subject. When did this stuff get so freakin expensive!? Jeez. We want to get good Performance RAM since he's going to OC but even 2x512MB PC3200 HyperX is like $255. Any good RAM I dont know about? Buffallo I'm thinking might be a good option (like PC3700 stuff to make sure it works on PC3200) but their QC isn't as good as the name brand perf. RAMs.

Oh, and also hooking him up with either a SLK-800, 900, or 947. Anyone know a place to get those for cheap?

Yep, ram got expensive about 6 months to a year ago. Right now, this is the best price/performance ram that I know of: OCZ Per. Series for $98 per 512MB stick.

Yea the OCZ really is a great deal imho. It's been running great for me...it actually overclocks better than my HyperX I had.

As for the Thermalright...I don't think there really is a place to get it that cheap. They are pretty expensive heatsinks, but if he plans on doing a lot of overclocking it's definitely worth it imho.

I love my SP97! Although a 947U or 900A will also do very well for cheaper. If the mobo has mounting holes around the CPU socket, get the 947U. If not, get the 900A and be careful moving the case around.

The buffalo 3200 is better than thier 3700 because it uses winbond chips instead of mircon. it will easily run 3200. And best of all it's super cheap @$44 a 256 meg stick. I currently running 210 mhz but it was stable up to 218 mhz 2-3-3-11 at low 2.7v. IMO a steal compared to "corsiar" or "mushkin"
