Performance gain on upgrading CPU or vid card.

Hi,

I'm currently planning to upgrade my 2 year old system with the following specs:

P2B rev 1.02
Cel 266 @ 400 (No L2 cache)
TNT1

I'm thinking of getting a GeForce2 MX together wif a Celeron 566-633. Was wondering if anyone can tell me how much performance gain would I see if I use the current processor I own with the MX compared to the TNT1?

TIA.

I dont think going to just a Geforce2 MX would help your system that much, also I would spend a litte more and get a P3 instead of a Celeron II even a low end P3 (500 or 550) would improve your performance over a CII...

He already said he would be getting both the MX and the C2.
This setup would at least get twice the framerate of your current system in games such as Q3A, if not much much more(I'm betting on much much more).
If you go for the C2, definitely overclock it to 100MHz FSB, and it will outperform the P3 500/550 that Bartman39 recommended. It will perform more like a P3-650 to 750 in most cases, depending on what speed C2 you get and overclock.

yeah, get a C566 or 600 and run it at 850/900 respectively. That plus a geforce MX should cost you about $200-$225. It will really really improve your performance.

btw: how much ram do you have? Make sure its at least 128mb.
