Performance difference - two cards in SLI

at this point in time he should pick up a single 7950GT and forget about those 7600s. A 7950GT is not only 512MB and more powerful than a 7600GT, it is a brand new card so if he REALLY thinks he needs a second one down the road, the price will be lower by then and yet it'll still be widely available.

Unless they decide to discontinue it and keep the price up while their future 80nm G80 products are filling it's place. Such a scenario happend with the 7800GT's. Because Nvidia had a better performing card on a smaller die, they discontinued the 7800GT only to later recreate it with the 7900GS.
 
No, g7x isn't going anywhere anytime soon. G80 is strictly highend and will remain so for a long time. G7x will be what is offered for midrange/budget/value markets.
