Performance Decrease W/Dx8 & V.1.07

I've installed Directx 8 and the latest voodoo drivers for my voodoo 3 3000. The decrease in performance is more than obvious.
I used to be able to play Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation at 1024x768 with full effects on my pentium II 400 mhz, 128mb ram, 20 gb drive and Windows Me. The game ran real smooth. Now, after "upgrading" (or is it downgrading) I have to play the same game at 800x600 with full effects but it looks choppy at times, the fps drop humongosly. I've experienced the same problem with various other games, ex, Quake 3 arena, Wheel of time, etc...
I think im going back to v.1.05(1.06 crappy too) and dx7 and maybe windows 98 SE.
Anyone any comments?

i think i may have a similar problem...last night i installed the everquest expansion - Scars of Velious. It asked if i wanted to install directx...i did. Seems like i'm quite a bit slower now...in all zones. Is there a way to go back to 7.0a? I was really pumped about my Radeon, but now i'm sucking wind 8 (

yeah, you could "downgrade"/"upgrade' back to 7.0A, read Anandtech news, I think it is Sunday's, you will see a link to the uninstaller.

There's a little catch to this uninstaller.
It doesn't work in Me or 2k!

I'm running the 1.07 WHQL drivers with Direct X 7A and it works just fine with no slowdowns.
You guys should also be running Windows 98SE instead of ME.
